Batman Arkham Shadow Sequel Likely Canceled After Meta Layoffs

The person leading the development of the Batman: Arkham Shadow sequel was reportedly impacted by the recent layoffs at Meta, and the game’s development has likely been stopped.

Recently, Meta cut about 10% of the jobs in its Reality Labs division and closed several game studios, such as Twisted Pixel Games and Sanzaru Games. Camouflaj was also impacted, with a number of employees being laid off.

Batman Arkham Shadow Sequel Developer Camouflaj Impacted by Layoffs

According to a report by Aftermath, the studio developing the Batman Arkham Shadow sequel has experienced significant layoffs. Sources who previously worked at Meta say that only a small number of employees are left, and they’re now focused on creating a new user interface for future devices.

Studio executives revealed that the new Batman game, Arkham Shadow Sequel, was being created by Sanzaru Games, not the team behind the original. Unfortunately, Sanzaru has since closed. Meta confirmed to Kotaku that Camouflaj, the original game’s developer, was affected by layoffs, but it remains open. There has been no official word on whether the game has been cancelled.

Mark Rolston, who played Commissioner Gordon in Batman: Arkham Shadows, recently confirmed that a sequel is in development. He mentioned they were “about to start one” during an interview earlier this year.

There’s more news about cancellations in the gaming world. The Harry Potter VR game has reportedly been canceled due to recent studio closures and job cuts. Adding to this, long-time industry figure Larry Hryb, known as ‘Major Nelson,’ was let go from Unity after less than two years. Many are also wondering if the sequel to Batman: Arkham Shadow will be affected by Meta’s layoffs. Share your opinions on these developments and join the conversation on the TopMob Discord server!
