Batman: Arkham Shadow Sequel Must Bring Back This Forgotten Gadget

In the game Batman: Arkham Origins, two new devices were introduced to the Arkhamverse: the Remote Claw, used predominantly during predator confrontations, and Shock Gloves, employed in combat situations. What makes the Shock Gloves distinctive is that they function as part of Batman’s integrated freeflow combat system, rather than being a tool he pulls out from his utility belt. Once the charge meter fills by landing strikes, players can activate them, and their subsequent attacks will deliver electric shocks, boosting combo counts quickly and incapacitating enemies, regardless of whether they are armored or armed with stun batons.

In the world of Batman games, the Remote Claw wasn’t part of the storyline in Rocksteady’s trilogy or its immediate sequels like Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate and Batman: Arkham Shadow. However, Batman: Arkham Shadow did bring back the Shock Gloves, which was a delightful throwback that connected Shadow to Origins and significantly enhanced the game’s freeflow combat. If the Shock Gloves can return, perhaps there’s hope for the Remote Claw as well, and that could be fantastic news given its impact in Origins. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

In the game Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, it appears that the Remote Claw was likely taken apart and its parts used to create a complete Line Launcher instead. However, this transformation diminishes the Remote Claw’s offensive capabilities significantly. Since Blackgate takes place shortly after Origins, there’s a chance the Remote Claw won’t return if it was indeed replaced and rendered obsolete.

Batman: Arkham Shadow’s Adaptation of Arkhamverse Gadgets is Astonishing

Before any official confirmation or unveiling of a new Batman game from Rocksteady becomes reality, “Batman: Arkham Shadow” stands as a beacon, showcasing an ideal blueprint for potential future games set in the Arkhamverse. Interestingly, while “Batman: Arkham Shadow” follows closely in the footsteps of Rocksteady and WB Games Montreal’s formulas, Camouflaj’s prequel entry dares to take numerous innovative and daring steps, maintaining an authentic feel.

Shadow skillfully overcame the task of adapting the core gadgets from the Arkhamverse, such as Explosive Gel, a version of the Cryptographic Sequencer renamed ‘Decoder’, Batclaw, and even the Shock Gloves, which were initially exclusive to Origins. The Remote Claw, however, presented a challenge when it came to integrating it seamlessly into predator confrontations where players in VR walk the cable’s tightrope between anchor points or use it to catapult two enemies together. However, with the foundation of a complete VR Arkham game now established, offering a wealth of mechanics and interactivity, a sequel might find a way to incorporate the Remote Claw more effectively.

Batman: Arkham Origins’ Remote Claw Deserves an Encore

In the game Batman: Arkham Origins, the Remote Claw becomes crucial and outshines many other tactics in predator confrontations once fully enhanced because of its effectiveness. The design of each predator encounter room offers numerous chances for players to either tie an enemy to a gargoyle and hurl lethal canisters or non-lethal fire extinguishers, depending on their preference.

Similarly, Remote Claw tightropes offer the option for either a zip-line maneuver or a hidden attack from above. Subsequently, players can effortlessly eliminate the remaining foes in the room by tampering with their weapons using the Disruptor device or by launching a Smoke Grenade into their vicinity.

The Remote Claw is a device with a learning curve for skilled players who can maximize its potential in various environments, but even novice users can yield impressive results by firing it whenever they spot a green indicator suggesting a connection between an aimed enemy and something else, as long as there’s no line-of-sight hindrance.

It appears that the Arkhamverse has left behind the Remote Claw for now, but reintroducing it could bring a delightful blast from the past and improve predator encounter takedowns. As we await the next Batman game following Batman: Arkham Shadow, it will be intriguing to discover which old gadgets return and what new ones are introduced.
