Battlefield 2042 Steam Player Count is Currently Higher than Call of Duty’s

After the beta for Battlefield 6, there has been a surge of first-person shooter enthusiasts returning to Battlefield 2042 in great numbers. This resurgence of interest has catapulted the game past Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on Steam’s popularity charts. With Battlefield 6 approaching, the lifespan of Battlefield 2042 is drawing to a close. The game was initially launched in 2021 to largely unfavorable reviews, prompting developers DICE to embark on a rehabilitation journey by releasing updates, bug fixes, and new seasons of content in the subsequent months and years. Although this endeavor did improve feelings towards Battlefield 2042, it’s nearly time for the next installment in Electronic Arts’ flagship military shooter series.

After multiple rounds of private testing within the company, there’s been a significant build-up of excitement surrounding Battlefield 6 following its two weekend trials, allowing the public to play it. The open beta phase for Battlefield 6 not only set new records for Electronic Arts (EA), but also for Steam, as more than half a million players logged in simultaneously to experience the upcoming shooter. This figure even surpasses Call of Duty’s all-time concurrent peak on Steam, an achievement that is quite remarkable given that it’s only an open beta.

Battlefield 2042 Is Crushing Call of Duty on Steam

Despite Battlefield 6 being temporarily offline prior to its October launch, interest in the game remains high. Data from SteamCharts indicates that fans of first-person shooters have returned to Battlefield 6’s 2021 precursor, Battlefield 2042. The game currently boasts more active players than Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone, and even surpassed Call of Duty’s previous 24-hour peak with 74,000 players compared to Call of Duty’s 70,000.

Beyond the usual excitement for Battlefield 6, there are several factors contributing to the unexpected surge in players for the 2021 edition of Battlefield. Currently, the farewell event in Battlefield 2042 is underway, offering players Pax Armata-themed skins that will be transferable into Battlefield 6 upon its release. Additionally, a significant discount on Steam, with the game priced at just $3 during a promotional sale, has attracted more gamers to jump into Battlefield 2042. However, it’s essential to note that this doesn’t necessarily imply more players are actively playing Battlefield 2042 compared to Call of Duty, as the former has numerous AFK XP farming servers, which some players are using to earn the Pax Armata cosmetics for Battlefield 6.

Though the significant price drop for Battlefield 2042 might make for a fitting goodbye, it’s unlikely that this discount will persist beyond September 2 on Steam. Moreover, the current battle pass for the game is scheduled to finish on October 7, just three days before the anticipated launch of Battlefield 6 on October 10, which will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
