Following much anticipation and rumors of a surprise release, EA officially announced details for the Battlefield 6 battle royale mode, though the timing felt incredibly last-minute – almost as stressful as a college student rushing to meet a deadline.
The new battle royale mode, called REDSEC (short for Redacted Sector), will be available tomorrow at 8:00 AM Pacific Time, which is 3:00 PM UTC. To mark the launch, Battlefield is releasing a new gameplay trailer at the same time.
Okay, so like PUBG and Fortnite, REDSEC is going to have us dropping into the action, but instead of those brightly colored buses or planes, we’ll be coming in on a Chinook helicopter! It feels a little more… refined, honestly. It’s a cool change of pace.
Battlefield 6 Battle Royale Map
Battlefield 6’s first battle royale map is set in California, putting players in the middle of a chaotic scene filled with quirky celebrities and frustrating film industry types. Players will battle across hilly landscapes and inside luxurious mansions.
Instead of traditional shields, players can now find and attach ballistic plates to their armor, working much like the system in Call of Duty. Not much is known about the weapons yet, but some believe the game will use the same weapon levels and types as other modes.
Battlefield 6’s free-to-play approach is a direct response to competition from games like Delta Force. While Team Jade initially gained traction, reaching over 247,000 players on Steam last month, its player base has decreased since Battlefield 6 launched. EA is now likely aiming to attract even more players with the addition of REDSEC.
Battlefield 6 REDSEC will be available on October 28th on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
