David Sirland, the lead producer of Dice’s Battlefield series, hinted that Battlefield 6 will feature larger maps than those shown in the open beta, exciting news for fans eager to explore a wider range of environments while engaging in intense first-person shooter battles.
The much-anticipated game, Battlefield 6, is slated for an official release on October 10, 2025. However, enthusiasts have already gotten a sneak peek of the Electronic Arts (EA) shooter during the recent open beta testing, which ran from August 9 to 10 and will be re-held between August 14 and 17. The inaugural Battlefield 6 Open Beta weekend was a resounding success, setting a new record as the “largest ever,” EA reported. Although specific figures were not disclosed, it’s been revealed that on Steam alone, Battlefield 6 boasted over half a million simultaneous players at its peak.
Players Will be Able to See Bigger Maps in Battlefield 6 ‘Soon’
One observation some players made during the Open Beta was that the game maps seemed rather compact. When a player expressed concern about this, David Sirland from Dice responded by explaining that map speed is directly related to its size. He further added that the beta maps were carefully chosen to deliver an intense, high-octane version of Battlefield 6 to fans. Although larger maps are available, their pace adjusts accordingly. Lastly, Sirland hinted that players would have a chance to experience these larger maps soon.
During the open beta for Battlefield 6, there are four maps to play: Iberian Offensive, Liberation Peak, Siege of Cairo, and Empire State (accessible only during the second weekend). Six additional maps are scheduled for launch: Operation Firestorm, Saints Quarter, New Sobek City, Manhattan Bridge, and – rumored to be Battlefield 6’s largest – Mirak Valley. It’s speculated that when Sirland mentioned large areas becoming available soon, he may have been referring to the game’s official release.

Despite the success of the open beta, Battlefield 6 still has a few kinks that need working out. For one, players have been facing issues with its anti-cheat software, which requires uninstalling Valorant to play without trouble. The issue arises because both games’ anti-cheat systems demand access at the kernel level, leading to conflicts between them.
Investigators are currently looking into an unexpected ‘time-to-death’ issue in Battlefield 6, a bug that has been reported by numerous players. These players have uploaded videos of their characters being instantly knocked out without any signs of being hit or sustaining damage shortly after getting shot during gameplay. Here’s hoping that these problems will be resolved upon the game’s official release in October, ensuring players enjoy a smoother gaming experience on both smaller and larger maps.
