Battlefield 6 Finally Reveals Free-to-Play Battle Royale Mode

After months of anticipation, EA has officially announced the free-to-play Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6, called Battlefield RedSec. It will be released with Battlefield 6 Season 1 tomorrow, October 28th, and will include a variety of new content like a new map, game mode, vehicle, and several weapons.

Earlier this year, EA and DICE announced they were working on a Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6 and started playtesting it with fans. Short clips of gameplay soon appeared online. Despite EA’s silence, reliable sources suggested they planned to unexpectedly release Battlefield RedSec alongside Season 1. This has now been officially confirmed just one day before the Season 1 update arrives.

Battlefield RedSec Battle Royale Release Date Revealed

The highly anticipated Season 1 for Battlefield 6 arrives tomorrow, and EA has now confirmed a new Battle Royale mode called Battlefield RedSec will launch with it. A recent Twitter post revealed Battlefield RedSec will be available to play on Tuesday, October 28th, at 8 AM Pacific Time / 11 AM Eastern Time / 3 PM GMT. A gameplay trailer will also be released on YouTube at the same time. Good news for those who don’t own Battlefield 6: RedSec will be free to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The news followed a recent announcement from DICE detailing big changes to the Battle Royale mode in Battlefield 6. While an exact release date hadn’t been confirmed, DICE explained they’d been refining the mode based on playtesting feedback from Battlefield Labs. Specifically, they’ve adjusted how quickly players can eliminate each other at close range, aiming to make good positioning and aiming more important and give players a better chance to react. They’ve also improved player armor, fixed bugs, optimized the game world, and rebalanced many of the vehicles.

Players will get their first chance to try out the new mode on October 28th. If it’s as good as other premium Battlefield experiences, it has the potential to become a major hit in the Battle Royale genre. Battlefield 6 is already a huge success, with EA reporting record-breaking sales for the series – over 7 million copies sold in just the first three days. While we don’t know how many people are playing on PlayStation and Xbox, Battlefield 6 reached over 747,000 players simultaneously on Steam at launch, making it one of the platform’s most popular games.
