Battlefield 6 Has Great News for Console Players

The creators of Battlefield 6, known as Battlefield Studios, have made it clear that the upcoming shooter game will enable crossplay among PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users even when the feature is disabled, thereby facilitating console-exclusive crossplay. With first-person shooters increasingly grappling with cheaters on PC platforms, the move by Battlefield 6 to support console-only crossplay is a positive development for gamers using PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Having console-exclusive crossplay is a good move for keeping gamers satisfied, but it doesn’t entirely address the issue of cheating that many live-service games encounter. Fortunately, Battlefield Studios acknowledges this challenge and has stated they are taking it very seriously. Last month, they announced that Battlefield 6 will debut with EA’s own anti-cheat software, Javelin. While there were some issues during the open beta, such as asking players to uninstall Valorant, the kernel-level tools in Javelin should make it much harder for cheaters to spoil other players’ gaming experience in Battlefield 6.

Battlefield 6 Confirms Console-Only Crossplay

In simpler terms, while software like Javelin helps minimize cheaters in games, it doesn’t completely eliminate them. For console gamers who wish to avoid playing against cheaters, Battlefield Studios has arranged for Battlefield 6 players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S to keep matching with each other, even when crossplay is disabled. This was confirmed in a recent interview with IGN, where senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson explained that if you turn off crossplay, you’ll essentially be matched only with other console players, and there won’t be any PC players filling up the lobbies.

During the same interview, Battlefield Studios addressed the ongoing debate about excessively exaggerated cosmetic elements in games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, and possibly Battlefield. With Activision being compelled to revise its over-the-top merchandise offerings for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Battlefield Studios has promised players that the skins for Battlefield 6 will maintain a sense of realism and align with the game’s overall gritty, realistic style, making it a true-to-life shooter experience.

There’s about a month remaining before Battlefield 6 is set to debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but fans eager for a sneak peek at the game’s single-player mode won’t have to wait much longer. Exciting news for everyone, Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed they will attend Tokyo Game Show 2025, and on September 26, they will unveil more of Battlefield 6’s campaign at the event.
