Battlefield 6 is still captivating players, and the game has a lot more content planned, including its first multiplayer season and a free-to-play battle royale mode. I gave the game a good review overall, praising its excellent multiplayer experience, but the single-player campaign didn’t quite live up to expectations.
Playing Battlefield 6 makes me really miss a feature from Battlefield 5, which hasn’t been included in a Battlefield game since 2018. I loved it in that World War II game because it made the experience feel more immersive and gave players a stronger sense of ownership, and I wish it was back in Battlefield 6.
I Want To Fortify Objectives in Battlefield 6
In Battlefield 5 (released in 2018), players could capture objectives in modes like Conquest and Breakthrough and then build defenses to hold them. Using a toolkit, they could create obstacles like tank traps and sandbag walls, reinforce buildings by boarding up windows, dig trenches, add machine gun posts, and put up barbed wire fences.
The gameplay followed a set path, but players felt invested because they could claim a location, build it up with defenses, and then hold it against the enemy team’s attempts to recapture it.
This also provided a good way to gain extra experience, as the support class could build defenses more quickly thanks to their special abilities.
Unfortunately, this feature was taken out of Battlefield 2042 due to the limited environmental destruction in that game, and it hasn’t been added back in the latest release, Battlefield 6, which came out on October 10th.
It’s unfortunate, because the destruction in Battlefield 6 is really impressive – buildings can be completely leveled. I envision fortifications falling apart over time as they’re bombarded with enemy fire and objectives are destroyed.

The thought struck me again while I was stationed at objective ‘D’ on Liberation Peak – a location right in the middle of a street lined with houses that desperately need reinforcing. It would be an ideal place to set up obstacles to stop vehicles from approaching from either direction, and the damaged buildings would provide excellent cover for building sandbags and digging trenches.
I understand why building fortifications isn’t included in the game. Battlefield 6 is all about fast action and massive destruction, so anything players built would probably be immediately destroyed. It just doesn’t make sense to spend development time on a feature that wouldn’t last long.
I’ve always believed adding buildable defenses would be a great addition to the game. It would give players a stronger connection to the objectives they’re fighting over, and it would also give less experienced players a way to contribute and earn rewards.
