Battlefield 6 Issues Official Statement on Winter Offensive Update

DICE, the team behind Battlefield 6, has acknowledged the problems caused by the recent Winter Offensive update, which launched on December 9th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. They are continuing to collect feedback from players and have announced a hotfix update for Steam users on December 12th to quickly fix a major issue introduced by the 1.1.3.0 patch.

The Winter Offensive update for Battlefield 6 concluded Season 1 content. Players received a free, winter-themed version of the Empire State map, complete with frozen streets and seasonal effects. The update also included a new melee weapon, the Ice Climbing Axe, unlockable through the Winter Offensive Bonus Path. Finally, a limited-time multiplayer mode and Gauntlet event were added, featuring themed gameplay on the Ice Lock Empire State map and a unique ‘Freeze’ mechanic across Domination, Conquest, and Gauntlet missions.

The recent 1.1.3.0 update for Battlefield 6 added new content, but unfortunately also introduced a lot of problems. Players quickly reported bugs like a malfunctioning user interface and issues with registering hits. The most noticeable problem was stuttering, especially for those playing on Steam. Players shared videos of the stuttering online, and DICE responded by suggesting a temporary fix: turning off the Steam friends list. Now, DICE has released a statement acknowledging the issues caused by the December 9 update and promising a full fix is coming soon.

Battlefield 6 Responds to Winter Offensive Issues

DICE, the developers of the game, recently posted on Twitter to address problems caused by update 1.1.3.0. They’ve been looking into player reports since the update came out and have already found and fixed some issues. They plan to release quick fixes (hotfixes) to resolve many more. A new update will be available on Steam tomorrow, December 12th, specifically to fix the frustrating micro-stuttering and improve the main menu and firing range. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and EA App users will receive the same update on December 15th.

DICE is working on several issues, but a fix will take a bit longer to release. One problem involves bot kills incorrectly showing up in player stats. They had removed bot kills earlier this year, but this caused a separate issue preventing them from removing deaths as well. As a temporary solution, bot kills have been re-enabled while they fix the underlying bug. They’re also looking into rubberbanding—where players appear to snap back and forth—for some PC players of Battlefield 6. This seems to happen for those with lower-end CPUs running the game on low graphics settings. If the game can’t maintain a stable simulation rate due to CPU load, players might also experience issues with registering hits or notice lag.

DICE is currently looking at player feedback on the recent update. The latest changes to Breakthrough mode in Battlefield 6 included updates to several map layouts, aiming to create a fairer experience between attackers and defenders, improve how matches flow, balance vehicles, and make capture points clearer. Players immediately shared their thoughts on these changes, and while DICE hasn’t announced any new adjustments yet, they’ve confirmed that player feedback is helping to shape future improvements to Breakthrough, and they’ll share more details as those changes are finalized.
