The creators of Battlefield 6 have adjusted the experience point (XP) system in Portal mode to stop players from unfairly gaining XP by repeatedly battling bots. This practice of ‘XP farming’ has been a major point of contention within the Battlefield 6 community, and the developers are actively working to reduce it.
Battlefield 6 launched on October 10th and was an immediate success. Within just five days, over 7 million copies were sold, generating an estimated $350 million in revenue for EA. Despite the game’s popularity and positive feedback, many players feel that earning experience points is too slow, and some are using automated programs to speed up the process – something the game developers at Battlefield Studios are now addressing.
Battlefield Studios has updated how experience (XP) is earned in Battlefield 6, particularly in custom games. They’ve made changes to the game’s systems to improve matchmaking and the quality of custom maps called Verified Experiences. To earn full XP in these Verified Experiences, creators now need to temporarily take them offline, turn off a feature called “Bot Backfill,” and then put them back online. After this update, custom games will always earn less XP than normal matches, even if bots are being used.
These updates come after Battlefield 6 made it harder to earn XP by playing with bots. The latest patch removed XP rewards and progress towards challenges from any game mode using bots. This significantly reduced the benefit of ‘XP farming’ with bots, which was done to stop players from filling up servers with them. The Battlefield 6 team explained that too many bot farms were making it difficult for players to enjoy the unique experiences the Portal mode was designed for.
It’s no surprise that developers are taking action against XP boosting farms in Battlefield 6. They announced they were addressing this issue last week, and players are now seeing the results of those changes. Hopefully, they’ll also adjust the game’s XP system so players don’t feel like they need to use these farms in the first place.
While fixing issues like cheating and XP farming isn’t the only thing Battlefield Studios is working on, players can look forward to big updates with the upcoming Season 1 for Battlefield 6. This season will roll out in three phases: Rogue Ops on October 28th, California Resistance on November 18th, and Winter Offensive on December 9th.
Battlefield 6’s October 24 Community Update Official Notes
- As part of this effort, we’ve rolled out several backend updates to support healthier matchmaking and better overall experiences in Portal. This includes resolving unintended systems that affected XP progression and balance across experiences, and for now, removing bots from Verified Experiences to help improve the overall quality of matches.
- Verified Experiences with “Bot Backfill” disabled continue to grant Full Progression and XP.
- Custom Experiences will continue earning reduced progression, regardless of whether bots are active. This keeps creative freedom and allows you to express yourself within Portal while maintaining progression balance.
- To pick up these changes properly and have an experience earn full XP, any qualifying experience would need to be unpublished, have “Bot Backfill” disabled, and then republished. Servers, including persistent ones, may occasionally need to be restarted. These brief interruptions may continue until ongoing improvements are fully implemented.
