I’ve been hearing from a lot of Battlefield 6 players on PC who are frustrated with controller users, specifically because of what they feel is an unfair advantage with aim assist. Some of them have actually figured out how to tweak the game files to turn off crossplay, so they don’t get matched with controller players anymore. It’s a way they’re trying to level the playing field, since they think the aim assist gives controller players too much of an edge.
The debate over aim assist in video games is a long-standing one. Traditionally, developers have included aim assist for controller players to level the playing field, as keyboard and mouse setups naturally allow for more accurate aiming. However, many keyboard and mouse players now believe aim assist has become too strong, giving controller players an unfair advantage.
A recent discovery suggests PC players can disable crossplay with controller users by modifying the game files. If you don’t yet own Battlefield 6 on PC, you can find the best deal to purchase it here.
How to Disable Crossplay with Battlefield 6 Controller Players
Players have discovered a way to disable crossplay in Battlefield 6. By navigating to the game files – specifically at documents/battlefield 6/settings/steam/PROFSAVE – and adding the line “GstGameplay.CrossPlayEnable 0”, they can turn off the feature. This method was originally shared on the X (formerly Twitter) account ottr.
I’m really happy they’re letting us turn off controller matchmaking – I’ve been asking for this for ages! But there’s a catch. Apparently, even though the game has sold over 10 million copies, almost everyone is still using a controller. So, if I switch to keyboard and mouse, I’m probably going to be fighting bots most of the time right now. It’s a bit of a bummer, but hopefully, more people will switch over eventually!
Ottr believes that if more players include this code in their game files, it will attract more human players and help fill up game lobbies quickly, reducing the number of bots.
Just a heads-up: tweaking your game files right now might not be the best idea. An upcoming update will reduce aim assist by about 25%. If you’re on PC, it’s probably best to wait. Also, if you haven’t bought the game yet, it’s currently 17% off on Xbox Series S|X.
TopMob has some exciting updates, including news that Battlefield 6 has reportedly sold over 10 million copies, and the Steam Deck is now offering a long-requested feature to its users.
