Battlefield 6 represents years of effort from the teams at Electronic Arts. It was hoped that this new installment would revitalize the series after the disappointing launch of Battlefield 2042 in 2021 and the mixed reception of Battlefield 5 in 2018.
With a successful beta and the new Battlefield Labs, excitement was high before Battlefield 6 launched. Now that the full game is available, millions are playing, but the experience is a bit of a mixed bag. The multiplayer is fantastic, but the single-player campaign is unfortunately quite disappointing.

Battlefield 6’s Dire Campaign is Carried by the Multiplayer Modes
Before Battlefield 6 came out, I often said how eager I was to play the new campaign. Battlefield 2042 didn’t include one, and I’ve always enjoyed the Battlefield campaigns. Over the past ten years, they’ve stood out by realistically portraying the emotional impact of battles and offering a deeper story than the typical fast-paced action found in games like Call of Duty.
Sadly, that’s not what we received in Battlefield 6.
Battlefield 6’s single-player campaign doesn’t live up to its potential. The story is weak and predictable, the missions are basic, and there’s a general lack of engaging content. It’s a short experience, easily finished in a few hours, and even finding all the collectibles doesn’t add much substance to the game.
Okay, so this game throws you right into the chaos and *never* lets up. Honestly, the only thing that kept me going in the campaign was the constant stream of enemies to shoot. It’s pretty basic stuff – you’re basically just running down a straight path, blasting waves of bad guys, and heading towards the next simple goal. It doesn’t really make you *think*, you just… shoot.
The campaign’s highlight is a mission with a larger, more open area for players to explore. This gives them some freedom and encourages more exploration compared to the straightforward, linear levels.
Honestly, the missions that follow a straight path really *are* straightforward. If you wander even a little bit off course, the game will give you a warning and force you back to where you’re supposed to be.
The graphics felt a little old-fashioned, and the AI wasn’t very intelligent. The gameplay was also quite basic – you simply collect weapons, shoot enemies, and follow the objectives. There wasn’t much depth beyond that.
Last year’s Call of Duty, Black Ops 6, offered players diverse missions involving things like stealth, sabotage, exploration, and seeing events from different viewpoints. Battlefield 6, on the other hand, rarely offers such variety – the most different gameplay you’ll get is briefly controlling a tank for a few minutes.
The Battlefield 6 Multiplayer Redeems The Entire Project
Okay, so I’m back to playing Battlefield with the new release – Battlefield 6. I honestly jumped ship with 2042 and went back to enjoying classics like Battlefield 1 and 5. But what they’ve done with Battlefield 6? It’s amazing, I’m seriously having a blast!
Battlefield 6’s multiplayer feels like a return to the series’ roots. It successfully recaptures the magic of classic Battlefield games like Battlefield 3 and 4, and I’ve been really enjoying the maps and both the familiar and new game modes.
Battlefield 6 isn’t perfect – the game’s progression system feels uneven, there are some bugs, and upgrading weapons takes a lot of effort, leading to players finding repetitive ways to earn experience. However, despite these issues, I’m still really enjoying the game.
I’ve been spending most of my time in Breakthrough lately. As someone who’s always loved playing Rush, Breakthrough feels really similar, but I appreciate that it lets me fight over larger areas instead of just camping one MCOM. Honestly, I haven’t had many complaints about how the game *plays* itself, and the maps have been pretty good too – except for Sobek, that one’s a bit rough.
I really like how the game lets me improve my weapons no matter what role I’m playing. I like to be flexible and change my strategy based on what’s happening in the game. So, if I’m a support gunner and need to switch to an engineer to deal with enemy vehicles, I can keep upgrading the same weapon – and thankfully, I can!
Okay, so I’m not the Battlefield pro I used to be – my reaction time isn’t what it was! But I’m honestly having a blast with Battlefield 6. It’s just a really solid multiplayer game that lets you play however you want, and they’ve clearly put a lot of thought into letting you customize everything. Plus, I recently got the new ROG Xbox Ally X and installed Battlefield 6 on it, and it runs incredibly smoothly – it’s a great experience on the go!
I haven’t tried playing Portal yet, because I’ve heard it’s full of ways to quickly gain experience points, and I don’t really enjoy that kind of gameplay.
Conclusion: Don’t Buy Battlefield 6 For The Campaign
While the single-player experience in Battlefield 6 isn’t strong enough to justify the purchase on its own, the multiplayer is excellent and makes the game worth considering. The multiplayer component is robust, and Electronic Arts plans to consistently add new content for the foreseeable future, with the first major season arriving this month.
Plus, a free-to-play battle royale mode is on its way. So, even if you’re not interested in the traditional multiplayer or the single-player campaign, you can try that out and still enjoy Battlefield 6 without spending any money.
Considering the game as a whole, I’m leaning towards giving Battlefield 6 a good score. In a series like Battlefield, the multiplayer experience is the most important part, and this one is excellent. Because of that strong multiplayer, I’m willing to be generous with my rating.
Verdict: 4/5 – ‘Great’
