Battlefield 6 Season 2 Fails to Boost Player Count

The release of Season 2 for Battlefield 6 hasn’t yet caused a big jump in players. Steam data shows the game only reached around 92,000 concurrent players on February 17th, the day it launched after a month-long delay – a number similar to what the game usually sees. While player numbers on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S aren’t available, the Steam figures suggest the update hasn’t brought a significant wave of returning players.

Following the disappointing release of Battlefield 2042 five years ago, EA launched Battlefield 6 last year. The game was well-received by players and quickly became one of the most popular games on Steam, attracting over 747,000 players at launch. Although this number doesn’t include PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players, console sales were also strong, making Battlefield 6 the best-selling game of 2025. However, the game’s popularity has declined significantly since then, with the number of players dropping by 89% from its highest point.

Battlefield 6’s Season 2 Update Hasn’t Impacted Its Player Count

Player numbers for Battlefield 6 have dropped significantly, and while the reasons vary, many players have voiced concerns about the game’s updates, technical problems, and a lack of new content. The delay of Season 2 last month, intended to give developers time to improve the update based on player feedback, didn’t seem to solve the problem. Although the launch of Season 2 on February 17th briefly increased player numbers to around 92,000 – a jump of 30,000 from the previous day – it’s still lower than the 97,000 players the game had a few weeks earlier on January 25, according to Insider Gaming.

The developers of Battlefield 6 are likely very disappointed with the launch of Season 2. A team member recently expressed concern about the game’s falling player numbers, stating they were anxiously waiting to see if the new season would bring players back. They had hoped Season 2 would either entice returning players or attract new first-person shooter fans. However, based on player numbers from Steam, it appears the update hasn’t had the positive effect Battlefield Studios was expecting.

Unfortunately, we don’t have exact numbers for how many players returned to Battlefield 6 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S yesterday. Since Season 2 launched during the week, we might see player numbers increase over the weekend. However, recent sales data from Circana shows Battlefield 6 is significantly behind Call of Duty on consoles – it didn’t even make the top ten for PlayStation and Xbox during the week of January 17th, although it remained the third most popular game on Steam.

Although Black Ops 7‘s Season 2 brought a large amount of new content – including maps, weapons, and game modes – players are likely to be disappointed with Battlefield 6‘s latest update. The update only includes one new map and a few weapons, and the Season 2 roadmap reveal sparked criticism from players who feel the content is insufficient, especially considering the season’s delay. Many have expressed that the developers are not meeting expectations.
