Battlefield 6 Steam Player Count is Down

The player base for Battlefield 6 on Steam has dropped significantly, recently hitting a low of just 50,000 concurrent players. This is a major decrease from its peak of over 747,000. Despite a recent free update as part of Season 1 support, the game is struggling to attract players, likely due to ongoing gameplay problems.

Although player numbers are currently modest, Battlefield 6 has enjoyed significant success in recent months. Launched on October 10th, it quickly became a top game on Steam, peaking with nearly 750,000 players online at the same time. The game has also received overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans – 73% of its almost 120,000 user reviews are positive. EA reports that this has made Battlefield 6 the best-selling shooter of the year. This turnaround is particularly impressive considering its predecessor was poorly received and a commercial failure for DICE and EA. It seems the developers have learned from past mistakes and restored the Battlefield series to its former popularity.

Battlefield 6 Hits New Low On Steam

Although Battlefield 6 was initially very popular, the number of players online at the same time on Steam has dropped to a record low. According to data from SteamDB reported by The Gamer, the game had just 50,631 concurrent players on December 10th. It’s important to remember that this number only includes Steam players; data for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S isn’t available. However, overall player numbers have been steadily decreasing since launch, falling from around 400,000 at peak times to approximately 160,000 recently.

It’s surprising to see player numbers so low right now, especially since DICE recently released a big update for Battlefield 6. The update, called Winter Offensive, launched on December 9th and includes a winter version of the Empire State map with frozen streets and new visuals. It also added a limited-time multiplayer mode called Ice Lock Gauntlet, which can be played on Domination, Conquest, and Gauntlet missions on the Ice Lock Empire State map, and features a special ‘Freeze’ mechanic.

So, Battlefield 6 just got a big update, and honestly, it’s been rough. They’ve added a bunch of new stuff, but right after patch 1.1.3.0 dropped, everyone started complaining about the game stuttering, weird glitches in the menus, and bullets not registering properly – basically, it’s been a mess. DICE is looking into it and gave us a temporary fix for the stuttering, but a lot of us are probably just waiting for a proper patch before jumping back in. I know I am! It’s probably why the player count has dropped so quickly.

This year has been fantastic for fans of first-person shooter games, particularly in recent months. Battlefield made a strong comeback in October, but ARC Raiders quickly followed, surprising everyone with its fun gameplay. Then, on November 14th, a new Call of Duty game arrived, featuring changes players had been asking for, like the removal of skill-based matchmaking. With three great shooters all released so close together, it’s now a question of which one will remain popular through the holidays and into 2026.
