Battlefield 6 Will Be Playable Again on August 29, But There’s a Catch

Enthusiasts of Battlefield 6, excited to re-engage in the action post the extensive open beta phase, will be thrilled to hear that the official return of Battlefield Labs is scheduled for August 29, offering a limited playtest opportunity. Fortunate participants of Battlefield Labs will get another chance to test-drive Battlefield 6 before its much-awaited launch on October 10, as confirmed by developer DICE.

Prior to the two open beta weekends of Battlefield 6 this month, Electronic Arts (EA) offered a select group of players the opportunity to test the upcoming Battlefield game through a new initiative called Battlefield Labs. This program is by invitation only, but fans worldwide can apply if they have an EA account. Those fortunate enough to be selected will need to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before participating, as their role will involve testing game features for the next installment in the series and offering valuable feedback to the developers.

Battlefield Labs Confirms Return Date

Players eagerly anticipating a chance to play Battlefield 6 can rejoice as DICE has announced a new Battlefield Labs playtest scheduled for Friday, August 29. For those in Europe, the playtime is set between 7PM – 9 PM CEST, while North American players can join in from 4PM – 6PM PDT. The test will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but access is invitation-only, with only a select few gamers getting the chance to participate. To register for this exclusive opportunity, interested individuals should visit the official Battlefield Labs website and sign up.

The upcoming playtest for Battlefield Labs is expected to generate significant interest, as EA and DICE experienced record-breaking success during the open beta weekends for Battlefield 6. According to the publisher, these open betas set new standards for the Battlefield franchise, with over 420 million matches played and 92 million hours of gameplay. Although there are no plans for further beta weekends before the game’s release this year, Labs testers will have another opportunity to try out the game this week, potentially with a new version featuring additional content.

For the first time in four years, Battlefield will engage directly with Call of Duty. Typically, Activision releases a new Call of Duty game yearly, but Electronic Arts (EA) has not published a fresh Battlefield title since the rocky debut of Battlefield 2042 in 2021. Fortunately, EA seems to be addressing its errors with Battlefield 6, as the initial open beta weekend has outshone Call of Duty significantly. On August 9 alone, the Battlefield 6 open beta attracted over half a million simultaneous players on Steam, surpassing Call of Duty’s record from almost three years ago, which was 491,000 concurrent players.
