In a recent interview, the general manager of both Dice and Criterion explained that they aren’t planning to use generative AI when developing the next Battlefield game.
Battlefield 6 is now available to play on all platforms, launching today, October 10th. Before release, the developers shared information about the game, and recently confirmed the servers were prepared for launch. Now, a member of the development team is discussing how generative AI is being used in Battlefield 6.
Generative AI is ‘Very Seducing’ But Won’t be Used in Battlefield 6
In a recent BBC interview, Dice and Criterion’s VP general manager, Rebecka Coutaz, discussed Battlefield 6 and generative AI. She explained that while generative AI won’t be featured in the game itself, it was used earlier in development to help the team explore more creative ideas. Coutaz noted that generative AI is appealing, but currently isn’t practical for the developers’ everyday workflow.
Coutaz explained that generative AI, or GenAI, can help them unlock new levels of innovation and creativity – essentially, it allows them to understand how AI works and use it to their advantage. She emphasized that GenAI isn’t a threat to the gaming industry, which is already used to rapidly evolving technology. The main focus now is finding effective ways to integrate these tools into their current processes to improve their games.
