Electronic Arts and the team behind Battlefield have released an update to reduce the effectiveness of using bots to quickly earn experience points in Battlefield 6’s portal mode.
Portal lobbies now offer a 150% bonus to match completion, but they no longer award Mastery XP or count towards challenge progress. This change only affects lobbies where bots are turned on.
After Battlefield 6 came out, some players exploited the game’s portal feature to find lobbies filled with bots. They did this to quickly improve their weapons and finish challenges. This sparked a discussion online about whether this practice should be permitted. A week later, EA confirmed that their data showed many of these servers were specifically created to unfairly gain experience points, boost player statistics, and unlock rewards by defeating bots.
EA acknowledged the popularity of these custom lobbies but explained that they were negatively impacting the core Battlefield 6 experience for other players. As a result, EA announced it would modify the portal system to reduce the number of lobbies used for quickly gaining experience points and free up server space.
EA explained they want players to easily find and enjoy the game modes they love – whether it’s intense challenges like Hardcore Conquest or All-Out Warfare, longer gameplay sessions, or custom experiences created by the community – and to easily play those modes with friends.
Battlefield 6 Community Reaction
Okay, so the update dropped, and the reaction’s been… well, a bit of everything, honestly. Most people online seem really happy – I’ve seen a lot of players calling it great news and saying it’s how the game should’ve been all along. But of course, not everyone’s thrilled, and there’s a bit of a divide. It’s pretty typical whenever they make a big change like this, though.
Honestly, a lot of us are frustrated with how grindy it is to unlock weapon attachments. Some of those challenges are just super tough and take forever! But the good news is, EA said they’re planning to make some changes to how progression works, and they’re hoping to roll those out as early as this week. Hopefully, that’ll make things a lot smoother!
