The launch of the latest Battlefield season has been rocky. While the new battle royale mode, Battlefield: RedSec, is proving popular and attracting players with its impressive destruction and maps, it’s also caused a lot of frustration. Many players have left negative reviews because they feel RedSec has the features they want in the main Battlefield 6 game. Some are also upset about the addition of a battle pass and in-game store, and that completing the pass requires playing the battle royale mode. Unfortunately, these are just some of the issues players are facing.
The main Battlefield subreddit has become dominated by negative feedback, driving many players to other online communities to talk about the game. Some Battlefield 6 players are frustrated with the constant complaining about things like cosmetic items and map sizes. While these issues are debatable, the anger over broken promises – especially regarding how Battlefield Portal was supposed to work – is understandable. Seasonal events are also a major source of frustration, as they heavily rely on creating a sense of urgency and fear of missing out.
Battlefield 6’s Problematic Event Approach Explained
Most live-service games let players participate in special events no matter how far they’ve progressed in the battle pass. However, Battlefield 6 is different. Players need to make significant progress – almost complete the entire Season 1 battle pass, reaching tier 93 – before they can even start engaging with the seasonal events. Only the mastery tiers are an exception to this requirement, and there’s a limited time to achieve this level of progression.
It’s still unknown how much effort will be needed to unlock rewards in Battlefield 6‘s first season. Even if the challenges are easy, players will still need to play consistently to complete the battle pass and earn those rewards.
The first season for Battlefield 6 starts November 18th and runs until December 9th, offering the DB 12 shotgun as a reward. It’s currently unknown if you’ll be able to earn this weapon later through gameplay challenges, so players have just three weeks to complete the season. This is also important for those wanting to participate in the California Resistance event. The next event, Ice Lock, starts December 9th and will continue until the end of Season 1, likely in mid-January, offering the Ice Climbing Axe as a unique reward. Players are worried about missing out on these weapons, as it’s unclear if there will be a way to unlock them after the events end – unlike some other games. The fact that you need to complete a full battle pass just to start these seasonal events is adding to that concern.
It’s especially annoying because of how Battlefield 6 lets you unlock things. You can earn progress with XP, but it’s very slow. Plus, once you finish all the weekly challenges, your progress basically stops. While many players don’t enjoy completing these challenges – like being forced to play Battlefield RedSec – the slow rate of unlocking things through normal gameplay doesn’t give you much choice. It’s even more frustrating when challenges require winning in game modes you might not like. However, if you want to take part in seasonal events, you have to push through this tediousness, and you need to do it quickly.
There’s Still Hope for Battlefield 6 to Course Correct
Gamers are upset about the new seasonal event, feeling like they have to spend money on Battlefield PRO tokens or shortcuts to get the new shotgun and melee weapon. It’s possible Battlefield Studios will change how the event works after seeing this negative reaction. They’ve shown they listen to feedback before, having already removed a controversial skin and adjusted colors in the game, and they quickly reverted changes to the Conquest mode. While some fans might think the complaints about skins are exaggerated, almost no one is happy with how the seasonal event is set up. For now, players are hoping the developers will listen to their concerns and look at how other games handle similar events to make improvements.
