Battlefield Head and Respawn Entertainment Co-Founder Vince Zampella Has Died

Vince Zampella, a key figure behind the popular Battlefield franchise and co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, has died in a car accident at the age of 55. He is remembered for his contributions to the hugely successful Battlefield series and other games, and is survived by three children.

Zampella began his career in the 1990s, initially testing games before they were released and providing customer support for a small development studio. He then moved into graphic design at GameTek in Florida, and over time, held positions at several well-known companies like Atari, Panasonic, and SegaSoft.

A report from NBC Los Angeles details a single-vehicle accident that occurred around 12:45 pm on December 21, 2025, in the San Gabriel Mountains. The California Highway Patrol says the vehicle left the road and hit a concrete barrier, causing one occupant to be thrown from the vehicle and the driver to become trapped inside as the car caught fire. It’s currently unknown if Zampella was the driver or the passenger, and both individuals died as a result of the crash. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
