Battlefield REDSEC 30Hz Servers ‘Beats Most of the Competition’, Says Lead Producer

To keep things running smoothly, the REDSEC battle royale servers in Battlefield 6 operate at 30 frames per second most of the time. However, when the match reaches its final moments, the server speed increases to 60 frames per second for a more intense experience.

Battlefield 6’s free-to-play battle royale mode, REDSEC, launched yesterday and immediately attracted over 500,000 players on Steam. Along with the new mode, Season 1 for Battlefield 6 is now available, adding a new map, gameplay options, vehicles, and weapons.

Battlefield 6 REDSEC’s Servers Run at 30Hz and are Ramped Up to 60Hz for the Final Fight

GamesRadar+ noticed a recent exchange on X (formerly Twitter) where a Battlefield producer, David Sirland, discussed the game’s battle royale servers. A player pointed out that a 30hz server rate felt outdated for a 2025 release, and Sirland replied that the servers actually run at 60hz during the final stages of a match – if a player reaches that point. He also argued that their 30hz rate is still better than what many competing games offer.

The game will run at 60 frames per second during the final battle, if you reach it. And honestly, our 30 frames per second performance is better than what most other games offer.

According to data from TrueGameData’s 2021 analysis (shared by ModernWarzone), Call of Duty Warzone servers update 20 to 24 times per second and typically host between 150 and 200 players in each game. For comparison, Apex Legends runs at 20 updates per second with 60 players, Fortnite at 30 updates with 100, and PUBG at 60 updates with 100 players. This data provides a look at how different popular online shooters handle server performance and player counts.

Players questioned David Sirland about why older Battlefield titles had faster update speeds. Sirland, the lead producer, explained that those games didn’t support as many players. He said the current team’s efforts are focused on achieving a stable experience with 30 players and aiming for 60, and emphasized that it’s important to compare similar situations. More improvements are planned.
