In Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, players are granted the liberty to explore and experience the game according to their preferences from the start. Although the tutorial provides essential guidance on navigation and fighting techniques, the richness of the game world offers countless opportunities for discovery and interaction.

In a sandbox game, you have the flexibility to change the course of your gaming experience anytime. However, initiating certain actions earlier in the game can significantly improve your chances of achieving success. Here’s some advice for newcomers on how to get off to a strong start.

Fight In Tournaments

At the outset of the game, your clan begins at level 1 with a modest group. Instead of rushing into joining a kingdom and making major decisions right away, take some time to explore the world and visit each significant city. Participating in tournaments is an excellent way to refine your combat skills early on and earn Renown points. These events provide a secure environment for training while also offering valuable rewards for your clan’s growth.

Fame influences the standing of your group, granting you a greater number of allies and allowing for larger parties. Triumphs in competitions reward you with top-notch weapons and armor, enabling both you and your followers to be equipped with the finest items in the game. While not bound to a kingdom, you have the liberty to move about freely and participate in numerous tournaments daily.

Focus On Mounted Troops At First

Having a large number of mounted units in your group significantly increases your travel pace across the map. These encounters offer an opportunity to travel between cities, leading you to the next tournament. Based on my experiences as a long-time commander leading troops through numerous battles, I cannot stress enough the importance of maintaining high morale within your ranks. The energy and determination of your soldiers directly impact their speed during marches and their overall effectiveness in battle. A demoralized group can even lead to members abandoning you mid-conflict, which is a situation no commander ever wants to find themselves in.

As a gamer, I can tell you that the diverse food choices in this game are reasonably priced, allowing me to explore various options without worrying about my budget getting drained. Although these edibles consume quite a bit of my inventory, the boost in morale they provide makes it all worth it.

Join A Kingdom & Become A Vassal

Becoming a subject of an established kingdom can be an effective strategy for expanding your power base and alliances. Later on, you may choose to either remain loyal or branch out and create your own kingdom. In this densely populated realm, governing a prosperous kingdom calls for a robust and experienced clan. Participating in wars is an excellent method of gaining recognition and advancement during the middle and late stages of gameplay.

By becoming a part of a kingdom, you can effectively divert focus from yourself and your group, as nobles usually have established alliances and enemies during times of conflict. Initially, you won’t possess any lands or assets, allowing you to confidently lead troops into enemy territories and engage in major battles for the greatest rewards with no risk of losing your own possessions.

Maximize Your Clan

At peaceful times, the size of your clan level influences the number of companions and caravans you can manage. Let your companions oversee caravans to generate significant wealth for you without requiring your involvement.

In times of war, let your allies take charge of smaller groups to expand your influence for the clan. Delegating leadership to others allows for increased rewards with minimal involvement from you, enabling you to enjoy the more enjoyable responsibilities of managing your kingdom’s sector.

To have a lasting presence in a kingdom, it’s essential to build strong connections with various lords residing there. Cultivating these relationships can be facilitated through supporting their decisions in elections and policy votes.

Based on my own experiences and observations, I firmly believe that it’s unrealistic to try and please every single person, especially in a complex political landscape like a medieval kingdom. Instead, I recommend building strong relationships with a select group of influential lords who consistently align with each other in their voting patterns.

When you join a kingdom as a vassal, you acquire the power to rally other vassals to your cause. You can then command their troops as if they were your own, making it simpler for you to control large armies of over 1000 soldiers during wars.

Although you won’t personally be every soldier, the respect and fame they gain through your leadership will still belong to you. The casualties of war won’t be entirely yours to bear. Inviting other lords to join you will result in both entertaining and profitable skirmishes.
