As a die-hard Castlevania fan who has spent countless hours navigating through haunted castles and battling hordes of supernatural enemies, I am thrilled to see Konami continuing to support the beloved Castlevania Dominus Collection with this latest update. The addition of a Boss Rush Mode in Haunted Castle Revisited is a welcome challenge for veterans like myself, and the new display layouts are a nice touch that adds a bit more customization to the experience.
The highly acclaimed “Castlevania Dominus Collection” has been updated in December, offering a range of fresh content and numerous bug corrections. This cherished compilation, housing several games spanning the rich history of the “Castlevania” series, introduces a brand-new gameplay mode for one of its titles, along with innovative options that enable players to explore the screens of the games they are currently engaged in more effectively.
Launched by Konami in August 2024, the Castlevania Dominus Collection essentially gathers Castlevania games that were originally released on Nintendo DS. These consist of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, which are widely regarded as some of the best titles in the Castlevania series. The Castlevania Dominus Collection furthermore includes the 1988 arcade game Haunted Castle as well as a new version called Haunted Castle Revisted. Notably, the latter is the centerpiece of the major content update.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve been eagerly diving into Castlevania Dominus Collection, even though one classic Castlevania title seems to be missing. Now, Konami has rolled out version 1.0.3 of this collection, introducing an exhilarating Boss Rush Mode within Haunted Castle Revisited! However, there’s a slight catch – you’ve got to conquer the game first before you can access this thrilling new mode. The update also includes some fresh display layout options that let you customize the placement of the multiple screens for an optimized experience given the DS titles’ dual-screen design. Although they didn’t disclose what specific bugs were addressed, the patch has surely squashed a few issues under the hood.
It seems that the latest update for the Castlevania Dominus Collection is more significant compared to its previous one. The October update introduced new artwork for Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia and fixed a bug in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. Remarkably, the earlier patch brought back a tiny glitch in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin which experienced players often employ as an advantageous exploit. The update humorously labeled this glitch as a ‘feature’.
Despite a decade passing since Konami released a fresh original “Castlevania” game in 2014 with “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2”, the franchise has persisted through collaborative content. The latest instance occurred quite recently with the “Vampire Survivors” DLC titled “Ode to Castlevania“, featuring more than 20 characters from the “Castlevania” series, including those seen in “Castlevania Dominus Collection”. This collaboration brings “Vampire Survivors” full circle by incorporating content and characters inspired by the IP it draws heavily upon. As “Castlevania” remains popular among fans, there’s ongoing anticipation for a future original title.
