It has been indicated on several LinkedIn profiles of freelancers that they will no longer be associated with Bend Studio as of February 14.
The update arrives merely two weeks following the announcement that Sony scrapped two ongoing service-based ventures, including a God of War live-service project from Bend Studio.
It’s not yet certain how many people have been affected, but based on some online discussions, it seems that only a few contractors received permanent positions, whereas others were terminated.
Instead of saying “Bend Studio’s game cancelled,” it could be rephrased as: “Bend Studio has not released a new game since ‘Days Gone’ in 2019, and according to leaks from Insomniac Games, ‘Days Gone’ had sold approximately 7.32 million units by February 2022.”
Given the existing game development schedules, it’s highly likely that a full decade will pass before Bend Studio releases something new following Days Gone.
At this point, it’s uncertain whether any members from Bluepoint Studio, or any other studio that experienced a project cancellation, have been affected by it.
