Summary
- Beru, Sung Jinwoo’s new shadow, outmatches Igris with deadly versatility and power.
- Igris, despite his combat intelligence, falls short against Beru’s speed and durability.
- Even with the best gear, Igris would likely lose while his true power is still sealed.
In Season 2 of Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo obtained possibly his strongest shadow to date, which he named Beru, also known as the Ant King. His battle with the living Beru was a spectacle to behold, and the newly acquired shadow immediately demonstrated its remarkable speed and strength by wiping out the rest of the ant swarm on Jeju Island.
In the world of “Solo Leveling”, there’s an ongoing debate about who is stronger: Igris, Jinwoo’s original shadow lieutenant, or Beru, the latest addition to his ranks. Igris has consistently demonstrated impressive abilities and Jinwoo himself has hinted that even as a shadow, Igris might have been stronger than him in the past. So, between these two formidable shadows, who truly reigns supreme?
Igris’ Power Explained
The Brutally Efficient Knight is Incredibly Strong

The first time Sung Jinwoo met Igris while transitioning jobs, he found himself face-to-face with a strength so natural it seemed almost supernatural. Since the double dungeon encounter at the start of the series, Jinwoo had never come as close to death as he did in this fight against Igris. Despite his best efforts, Jinwoo couldn’t hold his own against Igris and could only claim victory through what he considered a fortunate strike. During their battle, Igris reluctantly discarded his weapons, which unexpectedly increased Jinwoo’s chances of survival.
It was more by chance than skill that he won. He is superior to me in skills, techniques, and experience across all aspects.”
This version maintains the original meaning while providing a clearer and easier-to-understand sentence structure for readers.
In the end, it was Jinwoo who overcame Igris, yet he acknowledged that if Igris had his sword, he would have been no match. Interestingly, even Jinwoo conceded that Igris, despite being his shadow, was stronger than him, given his rank as knight commander. However, in the anime version of the story, Igris does not appear to be more powerful than other shadows serving under Jinwoo. Though he does receive a power boost in the series, this power remains sealed until a future plot development unfolds.
“Waiting for your king, are you?” -Sung Jinwoo to the defeated Igris.
How the Fight Would Go
Beru’s Versatility and Power Would Edge Out Igris

Although Igris appeared impressive in the anime as Jinwoo’s first potent shadow, it’s unfortunate that he seems less formidable next to Beru at this moment. This is because Beru exhibits an extraordinary range of abilities, including his own regeneration method and the capacity to mimic the powers of entities he absorbs.
Should a battle ensue between them, Beru’s diverse skills would prove decisive in the end. Since Igris’ full potential is yet to be unleashed, Beru wouldn’t find it difficult to outmatch Igris’ fighting capabilities with his greater speed, reach, powers, and strength. Regrettably for Igris, by the end of season 2, he had been demoted from Jinwoo’s most powerful shadow, a status that is likely to persist for some time.
In what follows, let’s imagine that Jinwoo equips Igris with his strongest gear for Igris’ greatest advantage. Given this powerful equipment, Igris might choose the Demon King’s Longsword, which boosts his attacks significantly and summons continuous lightning storms. With all of Jinwoo’s best equipment, Igris would have a stronger position. Nonetheless, in a confrontation between a sealed Igris and the present ant king, Beru would still hold an edge.
In simpler terms, Beru has demonstrated a greater capacity for destruction, resilience, and swiftness than Igris has in the series up until now. If their shadows were to clash, even if Igris was fully equipped, he’d likely be the one requiring revival with Sung Jinwoo’s mana first. When we look at their strengths while serving Sung Jinwoo, Beru appears to have the edge, as he can unleash more destructive power and defeat a larger number of enemies due to his superior speed. Although Igris has better combat intelligence and years of experience, at this point in time, Beru is stronger between the two shadows.
