Summary
- Yasuke can wield five weapons with unique skill trees in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, making him versatile.
- Focus on Long Katana path for active and passive abilities like Adrenaline Builder and Payback.
- Sheathed Attack allows Yasuke to unleash a powerful strike upon sheathing his blade, healing Adrenaline.
Yasuke stands out in numerous aspects compared to Naoe in the “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” setting, moving beyond the traditional samurai vs ninja contrast. Unlike Naoe, who can only handle three weapons, Yasuke has the ability to utilize five. These include a Bow, Kanabo, Long Katana, Naginata, and Teppo. For each weapon he wields, there is an associated skill tree that becomes accessible once players have acquired at least one related weapon.
In the saga of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” we should delve into the Long Katana path, seeing as katanas are a samurai’s most trusted companions. This branch is filled with active skills, which allow players to attack enemies using abilities they can set on a hot key bar, but these abilities require cooldown periods, just like in other RPGs. There are also passive skills here that warrant our attention, so let’s zero in on the top ones for Yasuke first.
7. Adrenaline Builder
Restore Adrenaline Faster

The majority of Long Katana’s exceptional talents are active abilities that gamers can allocate to quick access keys, similar to the face buttons on a PlayStation 5 controller. Players will require Adrenaline to activate these skills, such as Power Dash (which will be explained later).
After using a piece of Adrenaline, it naturally regenerates as players attack opponents. The Adrenaline Booster is a skill that speeds up this regeneration process, allowing players to utilize more skills in battle.
6. Combat Expert
Melee Damage Increased

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the Fundamental Skill “Expert in Combat” enhances the damage that players can inflict with Yasuke’s close-combat weapons. This includes Long Katana, Naginata, and Kanabo. The more Mastery Points you invest in this skill, the stronger these weapons become. While it might not be the most spectacular upgrade, it provides another means to make Yasuke an unstoppable force, regardless of which melee weapon he uses.
Near the Combat Expert skill lies the Melee Weapon Armor Penetration, which swiftly depletes armor on enemies more efficiently. Enemy armor is represented by a yellow gauge above their health bar; this should be evident, but additional tips are always beneficial when playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
5. Payback
A Powerful Solo Strike

As a fan, I can’t help but appreciate the epicness of Yasuke’s retaliatory move! This powerful strike is designed to take down a sole adversary. With his long katana in hand, he plunges it into his enemy and follows up with a swift decapitating chop. The upgrades for this technique only make it more formidable; they gradually boost the damage, culminating in an unblockable attack with the ultimate upgrade.
This ability is particularly effective when facing armored foes such as Elites, or during side quests and main missions in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Among Yasuke’s numerous skills with the Long Katana, this could prove to be the handiest.
4. Power Dash
Cut Through Enemies

Power Dash is an additional skill that transforms Yasuke into a fearsome lightning entity. Following a quick build-up, Yasuke charges forward with a mighty blow, giving off a stunning visual effect as if he’s tapping into his inner Kurosawa. It’s quite spectacular to witness due to Yasuke’s size, although it’s important to note that in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, there’s an element of magic at work, even though the characters can’t technically cast spells.
Improvements on this route could boost Yasuke’s attacking force, enable him to penetrate armor, and even augment his strike with two swift movements. This technique is particularly beneficial when Yasuke is encircled by adversaries, as it allows players to strategically dodge multiple enemies in a direct line.
3. Riposte
Counter With A Deadly Strike

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, mastering the art of countering, blocking, and evading can be quite challenging. Yasuke finds it more effective to either counter or block attacks since his dodge is hardly noticeable. On the other hand, Naoe’s dodges span a larger distance, rendering any other defensive maneuvers redundant for her.
When players perfectly time a block, Riposte allows for a stronger response. This move’s effectiveness can even heal Yasuke depending on the damage he inflicts on enemies. Although Riposte isn’t the most powerful skill in the Long Katana skill tree, it is still a worthwhile choice to upgrade.
2. Samurai Showdown
Taunted Enemies Take More Ability Damage

As a gamer, I can’t help but notice the striking resemblance between Samurai Showdown and the fighting game series bearing the same name – at least that’s what it’s known as in the West; they call it Samurai Spirits in Japan. In the world of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, my character Yasuke will certainly give a nod to this iconic series by taunting enemies within his immediate vicinity, echoing the style of Samurai Showdown.
In essence, Yasuke’s moves in Samurai Showdown are similar to his Battle Cry ability, which momentarily stuns opponents. Taunts used by Yasuke will temporarily weaken enemies, making it easier for him to deal more damage with skills like Payback or Power Dash. Enhancements to this skill can boost the attack power and the number of enemies that can be weakened.
1. Sheathed Attack
Strong Attack Upon Sheathing Your Blade

Wrapped in Battle Form, Yasuke transforms into an epic anime samurai. Players can tap and press a button to safely store his long katana. Upon release, this attack becomes as potent as a regular charged assault for close-combat weapons.
On this route, enhancements provide additional healing to Adrenaline reserves, making it a handy passive skill if gamers prefer employing active skills during battle. It’s also quite stylish in games and anime when a samurai sheathes their sword and swiftly defeats an adversary with a single strike. The Sheathed Attack isn’t as powerful for Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed Shadows compared to the heroes in anime, regrettably.
