Best Archetypes For Strength Builds In Metaphor: ReFantazio

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating the intricate worlds of RPGs, I can confidently say that the Archetype Lineages in Metaphor: ReFantazio have left an indelible mark on my gaming journey. Each lineage offers unique strengths and versatility that cater to different playstyles, making every character feel special and powerful.

In the game “Metaphor: ReFantazio“, archetypes offer a high degree of adaptability, enabling each character to wield almost any weapon or ability. Each team member possesses distinct abilities that progress at varying rates, with a primary focus on strength as a key skill for dealing damage.

Certain Archetype Lineages benefit greatly from strength-focused characters, and this list will help you decide which ones are right for you. This list will apply to all party members, so Royal Archetypes will not be included in each Lineage. Every Lineage is also grouped together because the later Archetypes of each lineage are straight upgrades from those before.

5 Thief Lineage

  • Unlocked through Heismay’s Bond.
  • Archetypes: Thief, Assassin, Ninja.

The Thief Lineage’s archetypes provide an intriguing variation to traditional strength builds as many of their attacks amplify based on strength but inflict Dark damage. The ones labeled “physical Dark” intensify with your strength level, while those categorized as Magic do not. Additionally, these Archetypes boast several fundamental slash attacks that also increase with your strength, making it the most beneficial stat for this Lineage.

This particular lineage, unlike others emphasizing physical damage, primarily specializes in Dark elemental abilities, a resource less prevalent across various lineages, even those focused on magic. Moreover, it offers numerous passive skills that enhance the character’s ability to evade incoming attacks, thereby reducing the enemy’s Press Turn icons effectively.

4 Gunner Lineage

  • Unlocked through Nueras’ Bond.
  • Archetypes: Gunner, Sniper, Dragoon.

Gunner Archetypes stand out because they primarily utilize their abilities from the back row, which happens to be the optimal position for characters with these specific Archetypes. The initial Archetype, Gunner, not only dishes out reasonable physical damage, but also possesses skills that carry a chance of causing status effects.

As a gamer, I’ve found the Sniper character type to be an absolute game-changer when it comes to handling swarms of enemies. This makes farming XP later in the game a breeze. Plus, its ultimate skill, Smashing Salvo, not only deals some serious damage but also weakens enemies for three consecutive turns. That’s one powerful move you can learn from this lineage! Now, while the Dragoon type is all about magic, the Sniper gives me more than enough skills to leverage using Skill Inheritance, taking advantage of its superior stats.

3 Warrior Lineage

  • Unlocked through Strohl’s Bond.
  • Archetypes: Warrior, Swordmaster, Samurai.

In the early stages of the game, players will find one of the initial Lineages to be The Warrior Lineage. This initial character type, known as the Warrior, possesses two special passives – Heat Up and Slash Boost. Heat Up enhances the Warrior’s physical attacks by 10%, while Slash Boost amplifies slashing damage by 20%. By activating both of these abilities simultaneously, they can boost slashing damage by a flat 30% starting from the first Warrior character.

1st Character: The Swordmaster grants the ability for party-wide attacks and offers slash evasion when dealing with bosses known for powerful slashing attacks.

2 Berserker Lineage

  • Unlocked from Basillio’s Bond.
  • Archetypes: Berserker, Destroyer.

Obtaining the Berserker Lineage happens towards the latter stages of the game, but it’s definitely worth the patience. The Berserker character possesses an early passive ability that boosts damage, and a formidable single-target attack capable of dealing heavy damage 1 to 3 times. War Cry is particularly effective against bosses, reducing both their offensive and defensive capabilities significantly. It’s advisable to utilize this debuff often when facing late-game bosses.

With the Destroyer Character Type, you gain a wind and light attack that leverages raw power, accompanied by passive abilities that amplify damage, deal additional damage proportional to your health, and boost your maximum HP by 30%. By employing Skill Inheritance on a Destroyer, retaining the Frenzy ability, and activating any other damage-enhancing passive skills, you can experience some of the highest single-target damage output. If the main character is using a Berserker, it’s beneficial to allocate a few points in Luck to ensure that Frenzy connects more frequently.

1 Brawler Lineage

  • Unlocked through Catherina’s Bond.
  • Archetypes: Brawler, Pugilist, Martial Artist.

The Brawler Lineage may seem like a double-edged sword, but with a good healer, it can be one of the best Archetype Lineages in the game. This Archetype specializes in landing critical hits, which is great for getting more Press Turn icons even if you can’t hit the enemy’s weakness. Starting with the second Archetype, the Pugilist, you’ll get access to a physical attack that not only deals a lot of damage but also lowers the enemy’s defense.

In addition to their martial arts moves, the Martial Artist receives powerful physical attacks that temporarily reduce defense. These attacks are crucial in any battle. Notably, the Pugilist possesses a Strike Boost passive ability, which can be activated following an enemy’s defense being weakened by three ranks. This results in an even more potent Strike Skill.
