The Undying Samurai
A Not-So Immortal Warrior
- Featured in: The Undying Samurai Mythic Tale (Ishikari Plain)
The Undying Samurai can be a tough opponent, but he *can* be defeated. Players often encounter him early in the game, as he drops some of the best armor – especially for characters focused on healing – in *Ghost of Yotei*. He’s a skilled fighter who uses fire attacks, which makes timing parries more challenging. If you haven’t unlocked the Roll skill yet, dodging his attacks is crucial, or you’ll take significant damage.
Sword Thief
The Sword Thief Fights in a Style That Worships and Respects the Ghost of Tsushima
- Featured in: The Storm Blade Mythic Tale (Oshima Coast)
In the final area of Ghost of Tsushima, Jin Sakai faces a challenging duel for his katana. Atsu must defeat the Sword Thief to claim the Storm Blade – the very weapon Jin used to protect Tsushima during the initial Mongol invasion. Surprisingly, the Sword Thief fights using Jin’s own techniques, having studied the samurai way from centuries past. This enemy is fast and aggressive, using quick attacks and evasive maneuvers, and won’t fall easily. Plus, his allies will relentlessly fight to avenge him.
The Oni
A Walking Brute and a Disgraced Samurai, Fights for His Honor
- Featured in: The Tale of the Oni (Ishikari Plain)
The Oni is a massive, powerful enemy, and players will likely face it early in Ezo after defeating the Snake – making it many players’ first truly difficult challenge among the Yotei Six. This fight is incredibly demanding, split into two phases that really push your skills. The first phase takes place in a dark, confined space, while the second phase is a fiery onslaught where the Oni unleashes quick, devastating fire attacks, forcing you to perfectly time your dodges and blocks.
Dojun (The Kitsune)
The Successor to the Kitsune Uses Smoke and Poisons to Fight Dirty
- Featured in: The Kitsune’s Fate (Teshio Ridge)
Dojun has taken over from the Kitsune and fights using unpredictable, deceptive tactics. He mainly uses a Kusarigama, giving him an edge when fighting from a distance. When he’s not attacking with ranged moves or unblockable strikes, Dojun relies on tricks like smoke bombs to confuse you. You’ll need to use Focused Hearing to anticipate his attacks. Like the Oni fight, this battle happens in two stages and can be tough for players who don’t realize he uses a variety of weapons and gadgets.
The Spider
The Youngest Son of Lord Saito Fights With Nothing Left to Lose
- Featured in: Call of the Hunt
The Spider’s initial fight highlights his weaknesses and disappoints Lord Saito and his brother. However, his second fight is where he truly becomes dangerous. Driven to desperation, he seeks revenge for the life Atsu took from him, and for his brother’s life, believing the Yotei Six took far more from Atsu than he did. This second fight features rapid, difficult-to-avoid pistol attacks, requiring incredibly fast reflexes to avoid being hit. He also uses quick yellow attacks to disarm opponents and blue attacks that demand precise timing to parry, making him a surprisingly formidable opponent for both Atsu and his father.
The Dragon
The Eldest Son of Lord Saito Uses Firearms and His Brother to Win
- Featured in: The Reckoning
The Dragon is the older brother of the Spider and is clearly favored by Lord Saito. He’s a relentless fighter who will battle until his last breath to earn his father’s approval. Not only does he wield a katana, but he also uses his brother to create distractions during fights. The Dragon will sometimes fire his pistol and direct the Spider to shoot a rifle at Atsu from a hidden position, requiring players to carefully listen for his commands to avoid being hit. Adding to the danger, fireballs occasionally appear in the arena, disarming Atsu and turning the battle between the eldest children of these rival clans into a truly deadly contest.
Lord Saito
The Leader of the Yotei Six Proves Why Ezo is His Kingdom
- Featured in: The Final Hunt of the Onryo
Atsu has spent 16 years preparing for this battle, and Lord Saito quickly demonstrates why that training might not be enough. Lord Saito, the leader of the Yotei Six, is a nearly overwhelming opponent, driven by a desire for revenge for his fallen soldiers and sons. He fights Atsu at the ruins of his former home, utilizing every fighting style and weapon players have mastered throughout their difficult journey across Ezo. The true challenge begins when Lord Saito draws his katana, as a single strike could instantly defeat Atsu. He’s not only incredibly fast and powerful, but also possesses his own unique Spirit abilities for special attacks and healing, making simply surviving the fight a major accomplishment.
Takezo
The Unrivaled Seeks to Be Unrivaled No Longer
- Featured in: The Five Teachings Mythic Tale
Okay, so getting past Takezo is seriously tough. First, I had to beat five of his students to even *earn* a shot at him. Then, it was up Mount Yotei for the final duel, and let me tell you, this fight is legendary. Takezo isn’t called ‘unrivaled’ for nothing – the guy has a *ton* of health, reacts lightning fast, and his attacks are completely random, making it super risky to try and counter. This fight really tested my reflexes and patience. Plus, there’s this time limit – the longer the battle goes on, Atsu starts freezing up and losing health, so you really have to focus and take him down fast!
