As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Capcom has always been one of my favorite developers. From their humble beginnings to their current status as gaming giants, they have consistently delivered top-notch titles that have left an indelible mark on the industry.
With over four decades under its belt, Capcom, founded in 1979, has produced numerous acclaimed games and solidified its position as one of gaming’s great legends. The extensive catalog of games developed and published by this esteemed company is virtually endless and consistently exhibits exceptional quality.
Over time, like many big video game developers, Capcom has encountered a number of contentious issues and criticism from fans. Yet, they’ve consistently managed to recover from these hurdles, delivering exceptional games for players repeatedly.
Capcom’s history extends beyond Resident Evil, as there are numerous outstanding games and franchises developed by them long before. If Capcom were to spend the remainder of their days remaking these classics, gaming enthusiasts might find it hard to express their satisfaction rather than complaints!
This list focuses on video games not solely created by Capcom, but rather those they’ve merely published. Games developed entirely by other entities are not part of this compilation.
18. Breath Of Fire 4
A Classic Turn-Based JRPG That Was Shelved Pretty Early
No problem if the name “Breath of Fire” isn’t familiar to everyone! It was a brief role-playing game (RPG) franchise by Capcom that had significant popularity mainly during the original PlayStation era. Despite its last installment appearing on PlayStation 2, its financial performance led Capcom to abandon it permanently.
In comparison to other games in the Breath of Fire series, Breath of Fire 4 stood out as the pinnacle, thanks to the developers’ efforts to broaden the world, enhance the combat system, and provide more immersive content and narrative. As a full 3D adventure, Breath of Fire 4 boasted turn-based battles, and it was seen as a viable rival to the Final Fantasy series at that time. With an isometric camera angle, the game offered impressive visuals.
17. Zack And Wiki: Quest For Barbaros’ Treasure
A Lovely Wii-Exclusive Puzzle-Based Adventure
The game titled “Zack and Wiki” was created and distributed by Capcom. Often overlooked, it’s a hidden gem from Capcom that graced the Wii console. In essence, it’s an adventure game where you click to interact, but it also includes a touch of action to make things more exciting.
In this game, players can manipulate motion controls to direct the treasure-seeking pirates clear of peril. While the graphics may appear playful, the challenges embedded within are deceptively tough. This is an expertly designed journey through an adventure world.
16. Dragon’s Dogma 2
A Modern RPG Experience With Captivating Storytelling
In today’s gaming scene, the long-awaited role-playing game, Dragon’s Dogma 2, has been a hit by offering an up-to-date open-world RPG experience that many gamers find irresistible. Featuring an intriguing pawn system and a multitude of captivating story quests, this game boasts exceptional replay value.
As a die-hard cinephile of gaming, I can confidently say that Dragon’s Dogma 2 immerses you in a vibrant universe teeming with diverse character archetypes, allowing players to craft their cherished game personas. What sets this eagerly anticipated sequel apart is the meticulous character creation process – a feature that adds depth and richness to the gaming experience. Dragon’s Dogma 2 undeniably paves the way for future installments!
15. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
A Well-Written And Well-Executed Puzzle Adventure From Ace Attorney Creators
Ghost Trick is a game created and distributed by Capcom, originating from the same team behind Phoenix Wright. In this unique adventure, players find themselves deceased, tasked with solving their own murder mysteries. By manipulating objects as a ghostly presence, they can subtly influence reality, often setting off a chain reaction similar to a domino effect, one example being the shaking of a light source.
By the way, it also includes time travel. The visuals and music on DS are fantastic, but what makes this game truly standout is its story. Although several more Phoenix Wright games have been released, sadly, there’s still no sequel for Ghost Trick.
14. Power Stone 2
Fun, Challenging, And Innovative Multiplayer Fights In Full 3D Environment
As an ardent gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but reminisce about my experience with “Power Stone 2.” This epic adventure was masterfully crafted by Capcom, who also graciously took charge of its publication in both North America and Japan. In many ways, the original game served as a formidable contender to the legendary “Super Smash Bros.” However, unlike its platform fighter counterpart, “Power Stone 2” is designed with four-player battles in mind, offering vast battlefields where strategic weapon usage becomes a game-changer.
These remarks indicate that the game is a party-style brawler, and both Power Stone titles are excellent fighting games. The second installment, specifically, was one of the best that the Dreamcast ever had. Regrettably, the series didn’t continue beyond this point, but perhaps someday Capcom will acknowledge their mistake and release another sequel.
13. Dino Crisis
Another Survival Horror Hit From The Resident Evil Team
In a fresh endeavor by the creators of “Resident Evil”, “Dino Crisis” offered an analogous approach, delivering yet another thrilling survival horror experience, this time with dinosaurs dominating the setting instead of genetically altered human beings.
Even though it employed a consistent camera angle similar to Resident Evil and gunfights in a comparable style, Dino Crisis stood out by introducing unique mechanics of its own and boasting an intriguing narrative that helped it achieve massive success for Capcom once again.
12. Monster Hunter Rise
An Epic RPG With Significant Improvements Upon Worlds
After the incredible success of Monster Hunter: World, the Monster Hunter series has finally gained the recognition and affection it deserves. This newfound popularity carried over to Monster Hunter Rise, which sold an impressive number of copies upon its release, even though it was initially only available on the Nintendo Switch.
The PC version of this game has been well-received too, and it appears that the future looks bright for this franchise at the moment. The classic fighting style of this series, along with enhanced exploration possibilities, make Monster Hunter Rise an exceptional game on its own.
11. Resident Evil 7
Inventing A Superb New Direction For A Beloved Franchise
A daring development team likely created Resident Evil 7, as it represents an unexpected direction for the series, which was necessary to revitalize it following some less successful releases in the past.
Resident Evil 7 wasn’t just a shift in camera perspective; it brought a fresh injection of ideas into the franchise. It amplified the horror aspects and integrated them with an upgraded firearm mechanics, resulting in a far more immersive and intense experience compared to previous installments.
10. Mega Man X Legacy Collection
Delivering All The Great Mega Man X Titles In One Package
Many people believe that the Mega Man X series is among the franchise’s finest installments. Since Capcom hasn’t focused much on the series lately, it appears that this Legacy Collection might be all fans can expect from the Mega Man universe for a while.
It’s evident that the extensive content within the “Mega Man X Legacy Collection” explains its high rating. Add to that a host of fresh features, and you’ve got an incredibly impressive game on your hands.
9. Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
Continuing The Successful Formula With More New Innovations
As a huge fan, I can’t help but reminisce about Marvel vs Capcom 2, a masterpiece developed by none other than Capcom. This game garnered exceptional praise, even surpassing other fighting games on the Dreamcast platform. While opinions may vary on Capcom’s best fighting game of all time, for me, it’s undeniably Marvel vs Capcom 2 that holds the crown.
Regardless of whether you play it in an arcade or on systems such as the PlayStation 3, this game is a paradise for fighting enthusiasts. Furthermore, the roster boasts an impressive array of characters from both Capcom and Marvel universes. The gameplay is top-notch, complemented by stunning sprite visuals.
8. Monster Hunter: World
New Blood In The Series To Make Monster Hunter A Global Hit
In this review, we’ll discuss “Monster Hunter: World,” a game developed and published by Capcom. Our analysis is based on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the title. It’s important to note that its expansion, titled “Iceborne,” also garnered a score of 90. This latest installment in the ongoing series has been successful in attracting players who were hesitant since the franchise began on PS2.
The journey remains challenging, yet it’s been refined to make it more welcoming for new participants, while still preserving the elements that have made this series popular among its primarily Japanese fanbase.
7. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
One Of The Most Brutal And Memorable Horror Adventures In Gaming
The Resident Evil series has consistently been one of Capcom’s most successful franchises, so it’s no surprise that their top games would include titles from this series at some point. In particular, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis concluded the incredible trilogy of the original PlayStation with style.
In my opinion, although the third installment may be slightly shorter compared to its forerunners, it remains an exceptional game all the same. What truly sets it apart is the inclusion of one of gaming’s most legendary adversaries – none other than the formidable Nemesis himself.
6. Viewtiful Joe
Explosive Side-Scroller From The Legendary Creator Of Bayonetta
Viewtiful Joe was created and distributed by Capcom. The main character resembles a figure plucked straight out of Power Rangers. This combat game is notable for incorporating bullet-time effects, enabling flashy maneuvers.
Example: Reducing the speed of time could enable players to deflect a massive projectile and send it hurtling back at a tank. Initially, it might take some time to adjust, but when players get the hang of it, they’re in store for an exhilarating experience!
5. Okami
Telling A Story From The Rich Japanese Myth With Unique Gameplay Design
The game known as “Okami” was created by Clover Studio and published by Capcom. Unlike the stylish cel-shaded visuals of “Viewtiful Joe”, “Okami” appears as if a vibrant watercolor painting has come to life, making it exceptionally captivating and visually stunning. In essence, this game is incredibly beautiful.
Fundamentally speaking, this resembles a unique interpretation of the classic saga known as “The Legend of Zelda“. Characters communicate in a language that might be unfamiliar, the landscape hides various mysteries, and there are puzzle-filled dungeons that can be conquered by acquiring new abilities. The main difference lies in our noble, celestial wolf hero who exudes an air of grandeur far beyond Link’s wolf form in “Twilight Princess“.
4. Resident Evil – Code: Veronica
The True Sequel To Resident Evil 2 And Clair’s Adventure
Initially, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica didn’t seem like it would be exceptional at its release. However, it rapidly proved itself to be one of the top games for the Dreamcast and an essential addition to any collection of a dedicated fan of the enduring survival horror franchise.
For those newcomers eager to delve into this game personally, I recommend giving the updated version of Code: Veronica X a spin. It’s an impressive overhaul that significantly enhances the initial gaming experience, particularly because the movement feels much more seamless on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms!
3. Street Fighter 4
A Gigantic Leap In The Franchise To Redefine The Series
Street Fighter 3″ was jointly developed by Dimps and Capcom, and they were also responsible for its publication. While “Street Fighter 2” is often credited with establishing or refining the genre, “Street Fighter 3” has significantly contributed to the popularity of fighting games within the gaming community.
The genre experienced a period of decline until the release of Street Fighter 4, which effectively breathed new life into it. From its characters and controls to its visuals, this game provided just what the genre required.
2. Devil May Cry
Giving Birth To A Gory Adventure With Beloved Characters
Initially, I thought I was stepping into another chapter of the Resident Evil saga when I embarked on my journey with Devil May Cry, but it swiftly transformed into a unique entity all its own. Remnants of the Resident Evil series’ genetic code are undeniably present within, lending it a familiar yet distinct flavor. As a movie critic, I must say that Capcom did an exceptional job in developing and publishing this action-packed masterpiece.
The game leans toward action, yet retains an eerie horror vibe. It’s set primarily within a single location, and while the dialogue might be a bit corny, it fits the overall feel. Despite some similarities with the popular “Resident Evil” series, the way “Devil May Cry” plays out is remarkably distinct.
1. Resident Evil 4
Feeling The True Sense Of Horror
As a die-hard cinema of survival horror, it’s no secret that the original Resident Evil film is hard to beat. However, when it comes to games, nothing compares to the masterpiece that is Resident Evil 4 – crafted by the brilliant minds at Capcom. This project took years and underwent numerous transformations, but every moment spent on it was worth it in spades.
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I can confidently say that this cinematic gem is renowned for being one of the most impressive comebacks ever made – not just in the realm of film, but across all artistic domains. It stands tall as an undisputed masterpiece, and its influence transcends the boundaries of gaming platforms, gracing almost every console known to mankind, including mobile devices. Remarkably, with each new port, it continues to surpass expectations, leaving me in awe of its enduring brilliance.
