Okay, so in Battlefield 6, carbines are basically a sweet spot between assault rifles and SMGs. They’re really good up close and at medium range, though a few of them can actually reach out and handle fights at longer distances too. I’ve put together a tier list of the best carbines in Battlefield 6 Season 2, and I’ve updated it based on all the balancing changes the game’s gotten since it came out.
Best Carbines in Battlefield 6 (Season 2)
- M277
- SG553R
- QBZ-192
- M4A1
- GRT-BC
- M417A2
- SOR-300
- AK-205
As a Battlefield 6 player, I’ve been checking out which carbines are the most useful overall. A lot of the maps have areas for both close-up and long-distance fights, so you really need a weapon that can handle both. I’ve found the best ones are carbines that kill quickly but are still easy to control whether you’re tapping shots or going full auto. Basically, I’m looking for something reliable no matter the situation!
Ultimately, the best carbine depends on how you like to play. If you’re curious about how each weapon performs, here are quick reviews of every carbine in BF6 so far.
M277
Man, I used to think the M277 was the absolute worst carbine in Battlefield 6. It was just so hard to keep on target! Every time I fired, it would jerk hard to the right, and while it wasn’t unusable, the way it kicked randomly meant I could never consistently hit shots fast enough to get those quick kills it was supposed to. It just couldn’t live up to its potential of taking down enemies in 0.25 seconds, at least not in a real fight.
Battlefield 6’s Season 2 brought a major improvement to the M277 rifle, specifically how it handles recoil. It now feels much smoother and easier to control without sacrificing its strengths. The M277 still kills quickly – it can eliminate an enemy in just 0.25 seconds – and can reliably get four hits on targets up to 75 meters away. While its standard magazine size of 20 rounds is relatively small, it’s sufficient for most firefights.
SG553R
The SG553R quickly became a top-tier weapon in Battlefield 6. It’s incredibly powerful up close, able to eliminate enemies with just three shots to the chest within a short distance. Even after some adjustments to reduce its long-range effectiveness, the SG553R remains a strong contender in firefights at almost any range.
Although this rifle doesn’t match the M277’s performance at very long distances, it easily outperforms all other weapons in close to medium-range combat.
QBZ-192
The QBZ has always been a reliable gun, but it’s become even more effective with the introduction of larger maps like Contaminated and Eastwood. While it doesn’t eliminate enemies as quickly up close as the M4A1, or hit as hard at long range as the M277, it strikes a good balance between the two. This makes it a versatile choice for players in different combat situations.
The QBZ-192 is a reliable weapon that won’t often leave you at a disadvantage. While it doesn’t hit as hard as some other guns, it’s incredibly easy to control. Just be aware that it has fewer attachments available, so you’ll have less flexibility when customizing it.
M4A1
Man, I’ve been using the M4A1 since the early BF6 betas, and it’s still one of my go-to weapons in Season 2. It fires so fast – it’s the quickest carbine in the game, hands down. It doesn’t hit as hard as some others, but honestly, I can usually take someone down before they even have time to react. It’s a beast up close, and it can go toe-to-toe with almost any SMG in BF6.
The M4A1 isn’t as effective as the QBZ and M277 when shooting at long distances. While you can still hit targets beyond 30 meters, its slower bullet speed, quick recoil, and significant damage loss over distance make it more challenging to use against enemies far away.
GRT-BC
The GRT-BC and M4A1 perform almost identically, with very similar stats and feel in gameplay. However, there are a few notable differences between the two.
- The GRT has better Precision, Mobility, and Control
- The M4A1 has a faster fire rate and better hipfire spread
We’ve covered most of what needs to be said about the GRT, as it’s similar to the M4A1. However, the GRT-BC reloads noticeably slower, which could be a disadvantage when facing several enemies at close range, especially if you’re reloading frequently.
M417A2
The M417 performs between the M277 and SG553R. It’s a solid mid-range weapon known for its accuracy and control. What really sets it apart is how easy it is to use – even though it looks like it has a lot of recoil, players can stay on target and fire consistent bursts.
The M417A2 isn’t as good as the M277 and SG553R because it shoots slower and has a smaller magazine, holding only 20 bullets. While it can kill enemies with just three hits at very close range (within about 8 meters), similar to the SG553R, its slower firing speed means it will lose in a direct gunfight if both players are accurate. Beyond 10 meters, it also falls behind the M277, as it can no longer kill with just four hits.
SOR-300
The SOR-300 is a unique weapon that combines characteristics of other guns. It deals damage and has recoil similar to the M417A2, but its damage decreases more quickly at longer ranges, like the M4A1 and GRT-BC. While it’s very easy to control due to minimal recoil, the SOR-300’s slow firing rate and significant damage drop-off make it less effective at distances beyond 30 meters.
The SOR-300 really stands out because of its attachments. With the right setup, it transforms into a highly mobile, close-quarters combat weapon. Using it this way feels like playing an arena shooter – the gun is incredibly accurate, and you can move and strafe around very quickly.
AK-205
Even though the AK-205 ranks lowest on this list of BF6 carbines, it’s still a solid weapon. While it has the slowest time-to-kill in its class, it compensates with exceptional accuracy – it has almost no recoil and very little spread when firing. Plus, you can equip the Synthetic Tips attachment to significantly increase its headshot damage, up to 1.75x.
The AK-205 is a bit of a paradox – it’s simple to control because it doesn’t kick much, but to be effective against other weapons, you really need to aim for headshots.
