As a gamer, I dived headfirst into the world of Xenoblade Chronicles X on my trusty Wii U, discovering that this was just the second installment in the series. Instead of following a predetermined hero’s journey with a central protagonist like the others, Monolith Soft offered an unprecedented opportunity to craft my own character from scratch. This unique feature sets it apart as the only Xeno game where I can shape my gaming experience, giving it a distinct edge over its predecessors.
In 2015, some players might have found the intricate mechanisms of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition intimidating and perhaps hesitated to play it due to the Wii U’s slow sales. Now, this remastered version is addressing those issues by simplifying many complex systems for a smoother gaming experience on the Nintendo Switch.
7. New Characters And Story Beats
Hello Cut Content
When remastered or remade versions of games are unveiled, enthusiasts anticipate they offer more than just the initial gameplay experience. Is the new version expected to incorporate fresh content, or possibly omit content from the original game? Regarding Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, we can confirm that it does. Additional characters, locations, and narrative elements from the original game’s art book have been included in this remaster. Disclosing further details might be a bit spoiler-y as most of the new content appears towards the latter part of the game. However, it’s safe to say there are some exciting additions for those who played the original in 2015. The game is quite extensive, so you may need considerable time to complete it.
6. Character Redesigns
Now With More Anime

Players who haven’t played the original game since its release on Wii U in 2015 might find Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition as an enhanced version with sharper graphics. However, there’s a significant change that might go unnoticed at first glance: the character models. In the original creation of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X, Monolith Soft opted for characters with a blend of realistic and anime features. But in subsequent games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Xenoblad Chronicles 3, and remasters such as the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, characters have transitioned into full-blown anime styles. This is a shift in the opposite direction to what was done between the first and second Xenosaga games, which evolved from anime to realistic designs. This new look helps the remaster stand out distinctly.
5. Combat Improvements
Quick Cooldowns

In the original game and its remaster, you might find combat initially challenging because it doesn’t have adjustable difficulty levels like most RPGs, and there are a variety of complex systems to grasp, from combos to cooldowns. However, the remaster will still require some getting used to, with numerous deaths likely along the way. But, there’s one significant enhancement that will enhance the combat flow: Swift Cooldowns.
On the right side of the character’s skill list, you’ll find a fresh gauge. This gauge allows players to swiftly reactivate an ability using Quick Cooldowns. This feature is particularly useful for players looking to execute a fast combo or heal up quickly in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.
4. The Map And Exploring
From Time Changes To Surveys

In the original version of Xenoblade Chronicles X, navigating the world map was quite challenging when picking survey or fast travel points due to its design. However, in the Definitive Edition, these issues have been addressed and improved. The map now follows a hexagonal layout and many UI functions were previously handled on the Wii U’s GamePad, but are now seamlessly integrated into the Nintendo Switch for easier navigation. Additionally, players no longer need to find rest points to change time; they can do so directly from the menu. Certain quests and enemies require specific day/night conditions along with weather patterns, making this change in the remake very appreciated by players.
3. Party Changes
Switch Anytime

In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, players now have the convenience of assembling their party directly from the menu instead of having to search for members in various locations like New Los Angeles. This feature, common in many RPGs, allows players to easily swap out party members at their discretion, making exploration more enjoyable. However, during combat or specific story events, the party lineup remains fixed. Overall, this enhancement significantly improves gameplay.
2. Level Cap Raise
And Non-Party Characters Gain EXP

Initially, the maximum level was set at sixty upon the initial launch, but it’s now been increased to the usual ninety. Moreover, leveling up no longer feels like a burden as characters can advance more swiftly. Additionally, party members who aren’t engaged in battles can still accumulate experience and level up.
Earlier versions required players to manage leveling up each character separately by switching among them, which was quite disorganized. However, in the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, players can now switch between classes, a feature that is highly recommended to utilize for crafting an optimal combatant for this futuristic setting.
1. Getting In And Out Of Online
Not Quite An MMO

Nintendo hasn’t always excelled in online integration with its systems compared to Sony and Microsoft consoles, but the Switch represents their most successful effort yet. In the game Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, players can link up online to observe avatars of other players on the server, who can be temporarily recruited for battles. It’s entertaining to witness characters from other players appear, particularly when they have made their heroes resemble characters from other RPGs like Squall from Final Fantasy 8. Co-op missions for four players are also available, and overall the connectivity is improved.
