Best Clan Abilities in Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

So, in Bloodlines 2, each vampire clan has four unique powers you can unlock. These aren’t just cool extras – they really help me out in fights, or let me get into places I normally couldn’t. It’s a big part of how I play and get through the game!

Skills like Shadow Step let you teleport behind opponents, while Unseen Aura makes you invisible. The big question is always which of these abilities are most effective to use.

Here’s a guide to the most useful skills in Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2, helping you navigate the city of Seattle effectively.

10. Unseen Aura

Invisibility

Unseen Aura is a powerful, and costly, skill for the Banu Kaqim. It’s helpful in many situations, whether you’re fighting or not. Most importantly, it can keep you safe by making you invisible, hiding you from enemies.

When you’re close to death, this ability lets you quickly move to a safe spot to recover, and then regain health by biting someone.

This ability isn’t just for fighting. You can also use it to slip away if you accidentally break the rules of the Masquerade. If someone catches you using your powers, activating Unseen Aura will help you avoid the authorities and quickly become less noticeable. However, it has limitations: you can still be heard, so you can’t move quickly, and using it costs a significant amount of energy.

Honestly, with the Unseen Aura perk, breaking into the police station became way too easy. It almost felt like cheating! The whole mission just lost its challenge.

9. Glimpse of Oblivion

Experience Fear

Glimpse of Oblivion is a Lasombra ability that lets you instill fear in nearby people. While it can be helpful in fights – even causing enemies to flee from their friends – I’ve discovered it’s even more effective in situations outside of combat.

This ability is useful in fights against tough enemies. Outside of combat, you can use it during Resonance Events to collect Melancholic Blood. When you talk to characters, you’ll often have the option to use this ability to scare them, which also lets you harvest Melancholic Blood.

The best part is that the skill doesn’t need to be equipped to use it on NPCs you speak to.

8. Mass Manipulation/Terminal Decree

Mass Suicide

Instead of highlighting just one ability, I want to discuss two powerful skills granted by the Ventrue Clan: Mass Manipulation and Terminal Decree. While useful on their own, these skills become truly exceptional when used together, making them a combination you shouldn’t overlook.

Okay, so I’ve figured out a really easy way to clear out groups of enemies. First, I use Mass Manipulation to basically freeze them all and take control. Then, the real fun begins – I hit them with Terminal Decree, and they just… well, they eliminate themselves! It’s a super quick way to deal with a lot of baddies.

This powerful move is most effective when used against many enemies, but the game’s combat makes fighting large groups challenging. It’s not practical to use against just a few opponents.

7. Lightning Strike

Flurry of Blows

The Brujah Clan’s first skill, Lightning Strike, functions similarly to the ‘Flurry of Blows’ ability in Dungeons & Dragons. Activating it briefly slows down time and highlights nearby enemies.

Hitting enemies near you will place marks on them. Focusing your attacks on marked enemies adds more marks. After a brief period, you’ll deliver a powerful series of attacks that deal significant damage to all marked foes.

This ability is particularly effective against strong enemies, often defeating them in one hit, which makes it a top-tier combat skill.

6. Arms of Ahriman

Hold Them in Place

The Lasombra ability, Arms of Ahriman, lets you ensnare opponents within shadows. This power creates a shadowy trap along a line, making it easier to attack, drain, or otherwise interact with those caught inside.

This ability is great because it doesn’t cost much to use, so you can rely on it frequently in battles. Plus, it’s helpful even when you’re not fighting – you can use it to stop NPCs from running away and keep them from escaping.

I mainly use this ability in battles, but I appreciate how flexible it is, since a lot of other skills are just for fighting.

5. Blurred Momentum

Don’t Get Hit

When it comes to fighting, Blurred Momentum is a fantastic defensive ability. You get it from the Toreador Clan, and it helps you dodge attacks by significantly improving your reaction time.

Activating this skill lets you move incredibly fast, making it nearly impossible for enemies to land a hit. This makes defeating opponents much easier, especially during challenging battles later in the game against diverse enemy types like Hunters and Thin-Bloods.

Okay, so this skill is a little pricey, but thankfully there are ways to offset that cost with some helpful passive abilities. And if you’re learning Toreador skills with Patience, definitely don’t forget to grab those crosses for her – they really help!

4. Bladed Hand

Wolverine Claws

If you’ve ever dreamed of swiftly defeating your opponents, the Banu Haqim Clan’s Bladed Hand ability is for you. It temporarily transforms your arms into blades, making your attacks even more dangerous.

This inexpensive ability lets you quickly dash forward with a sword swing, instantly defeating any enemies directly in your path. I’ve even managed to use it to eliminate three opponents with a single strike.

Considering the skill’s low cost, there aren’t many abilities better than it.

3. Cauldron of Blood/Blood Curse

Things Are Heating Up

The Tremere Clan offers some powerful abilities, like Cauldron of Blood and Blood Curse. Blood Curse makes an enemy violently explode, and Cauldron of Blood causes enemies to shriek as their blood boils.

Each of these skills is useful on its own, but when used together, they’re incredibly powerful, letting you quickly defeat groups of enemies. The idea is to start with Cauldron of Blood, which will make an enemy yell, attracting others to investigate and come to their rescue.

When your opponents are grouped together by your teammates, use Blood Curse to make them explode, eliminating everyone nearby. This is much better than other area-of-effect abilities because it actually brings enemies closer together.

2. Blood Salvo

Blood Daggers

Okay, so the Tremere Clan has this ultimate ability called Blood Salvo, and it’s seriously awesome. Basically, I can summon a bunch of blood daggers and just launch them at anyone who gets in my way. It’s easily one of my favorite skills because it’s super powerful and, best of all, it’s completely silent. It lets me take enemies down without them even knowing what hit them!

This skill is great for stealth, letting you quickly and silently eliminate enemies from hiding. In a fight, it’s very effective against weaker opponents, often defeating them in a single hit. Stronger enemies usually only take two or three hits, making it a fast way to win battles.

This skill is expensive to use, but the Tremere’s natural abilities help offset that cost, allowing you to use it more frequently.

1. Shadow Step

Disappear/Reappear

In Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2, Shadow Step is the most useful skill, and I definitely suggest you pick it. While all the movement skills are good, Shadow Step is exceptionally powerful.

Shadow Step lets you instantly teleport to a spot behind an enemy. From there, you can either launch a stealth attack or ‘feed’ – a move that can instantly defeat weaker enemies and restore some of the skill’s energy.

If you’re using the Toreador or Tremere abilities, you can quickly regain this skill and use it repeatedly against enemies, eliminating them before they react.
