Cooperative games are becoming increasingly popular, bringing people together whether they’re far apart or right in the same room. Titles like Split Fiction and REPO demonstrate the genre’s strength, offering everything from fully developed games to quick, casual experiences. No matter the size or scope, these games always provide a fresh and enjoyable challenge.
If you’re looking for a real challenge, these co-op games will really put your skills to the test. Expect chaos – businesses will fail, things will go wrong, and your friendships might be strained! But if you and your teammate work well together, you’ll not only overcome the obstacles, but also build a lasting bond.
PlateUp!
Friendships Will Be Pressure Cooked
Ever wished you and your friends could run a business together? PlateUp! lets up to four players do just that – build and manage a restaurant from the ground up. But be warned: running a restaurant is hectic! Everyone needs to have a specific job and work together seamlessly to get food to customers quickly. Expect challenges, like demanding diners, that will really put your teamwork – and your friendships – to the test.
If players succeed, they’ll be able to improve and customize their operations, starting with things like kitchen equipment and eventually expanding to new locations – each with its own unique difficulties. The game demands teamwork and quick thinking, which can be challenging, but it’s very rewarding to see your hard work pay off and build a thriving business.
Chained Together
Count To Three, And Jump Together
Okay, so imagine this: you and your buddies are literally chained together in hell and the only way to escape is to climb. Sounds rough, right? Well, that’s the premise of Chained Together, and it’s as chaotic and fun as it sounds! It’s a co-op climbing game – think of PEAK, but cranked up to eleven. Seriously, you have to coordinate your jumps and climbs perfectly, because one wrong move and the whole team goes down. It’s hilarious, stressful, and totally unique!
Working together effectively is one of the most challenging parts of teamwork, so finishing the levels in Chained Together with friends is a real accomplishment. It demands clear communication and making sure everyone understands the plan. After you conquer the game, you’ll feel confident you can handle anything with your team.
Don’t Starve Together
A Dark, Unforgiving Sandbox Survival That Will Harden Your Friend Group
Despite its charming, cartoonish appearance, Don’t Starve Together is a brutally challenging survival game. It doesn’t offer much guidance, and even experienced players will find it difficult. You’ll face terrifying creatures, the threat of madness, constant hunger, pitch-black nights, and eventually, the harsh realities of winter in this unforgiving world.
Okay, so in Don’t Starve Together, the key to doing well is definitely teamwork. You really need to work with your friends to collect stuff and find a good place to build a base – ideally near those beefalo, they’re super helpful! But everyone has to contribute, or you’re gonna struggle. Plus, choosing the right character makes a huge difference because they all have different skills and little things that make them unique. It’s kind of like Minecraft survival, but way harder. If you and your friends have already mastered Minecraft, you should totally check this out. It’ll either make your friendships even stronger, or… well, let’s just say it’ll be a memorable experience!
Deep Rock Galactic
You’ll Need Your Friends To Survive These Infested Caves
If you and your friends enjoy cooperative shooter games, Deep Rock Galactic is a great choice. You play as a team of space dwarves who explore procedurally generated caves, mining for resources and fighting off swarms of alien creatures. Like Don’t Starve Together, each dwarf has a different role and abilities, so teamwork and coordination are key to surviving the dangerous cave systems.
As a player, I’m really loving how every cave feels totally unique in this game. It keeps things exciting because you never know what to expect, and it forces our team to really work together. Everyone has a role to play – whether it’s setting up defenses with turrets or scouting ahead to light the way – and you need everyone to pull their weight if you want to survive. It’s just a super thrilling shooter that really puts you and your friends to the test, and it feels amazing when you come out on top!
PEAK
No Climber Left Behind
After a plane crash, PEAK dispatches a small team to reach an extraction point by scaling challenging landscapes. The journey is fraught with peril – from slippery, rain-soaked cliffs to intense heat and dangerous opponents. Throughout the climb, players must overcome numerous environmental obstacles, and teamwork is crucial. If you don’t help a teammate who’s losing stamina, they could fall and perish.
In the game PEAK, players have limited energy and can only carry a certain amount, which encourages teamwork. As the game progresses, essential supplies like food and medical kits become rare. To succeed, players need to ensure everyone stays alive and contributes effectively. PEAK teaches players how to organize and communicate within a group, and those who do will likely strengthen their friendships in the process.
Lethal Company
Your Friends Are Your Salvation And Demise
Lethal Company throws you into a wild situation: you and your friends are forced to scavenge dangerous, abandoned places for scrap by a demanding and often unfair boss. This naturally leads to hilarious mishaps and chaotic moments, especially when playing with a larger group. But to actually succeed in the game, you’ll need to learn to rely on each other.
Okay, seriously, the walkie-talkies in this game are amazing. One of us stays back on the ship and basically becomes mission control, watching the monitors and talking to one other person on the ground. They can see where all the good stuff is, and more importantly, where the monsters are lurking, so keeping that communication open is huge. You really don’t want to accidentally leave a teammate to get eaten, do you? If you want to actually make some money in Lethal Company and survive the scary stuff, you need to rely on your friends – they’ll have your back, and you need to have theirs!
It Takes Two
A Bickering, Divorcing Couple Is A Blueprint To Stronger Relationships
Honestly, if you’re looking for a game to play with someone, especially if you want to connect on a deeper level, you absolutely have to try It Takes Two. The whole game is about a couple trying to fix their relationship, and it really hits home. Playing as Cody and May made me think about my own relationships and how important teamwork and understanding are. It’s a surprisingly emotional ride, but in the best way possible – it’s a game that really brings people together.
To succeed in the game’s main story, players need to cooperate and work as a team – you can’t play alone! Both players have to help each other overcome challenges and defeat enemies. While there are some competitive mini-games, the focus is on teamwork and communication, something the characters Cody and May really need given their constant arguments. Ultimately, It Takes Two delivers a heartwarming story that will likely bring players closer together.
