Best Colossal Weapons In Elden Ring

Best Colossal Weapons In Elden Ring

Highlights

  • Wielding colossal weapons requires patience and skill due to their slow speed and back-loaded payoff.
  • Players must invest in Strength and Endurance for heavy builds using colossal weapons in Elden Ring.
  • Colossal weapons like the Troll’s Golden Sword offer unique skills for crowd control and efficient enemy staggering.

As a seasoned Tarnished traveler who’s spent countless hours exploring the sprawling landscapes of Elden Ring, I can confidently say that each weapon in this game is as unique as the world itself. Amongst the plethora of weapons, there are some standout options that truly set themselves apart. Today, I’d like to share my top three favorites, starting with a familiar face from Bloodborne’s past – Ghiza’s Wheel.

Massive or extraordinarily powerful weapons have been a common feature in the Souls series. Just like its predecessors, Elden Ring includes such mighty weapons, which are often essential to deal with the towering enemies and arrogant semi-divine beings that inhabit its world. However, wielding these colossal weapons is no small or effortless task.

1. First off, these weapons in Elden Ring are known for being quite sluggish. The reward isn’t immediate; it comes only if the strike lands successfully. This is why numerous Tarnished have abandoned their aspirations and chosen bleed katanas or powerful magic instead. However, those who persevered with colossal weapons and battled through deserve more than mere applause – they deserve recognition, much like the big boy bonkers gang.

21 Troll’s Golden Sword

Used To Be Wielded By Lesser Giants

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – D
  • Location: East of Lux Ruins inside a chest

The Troll’s Roar offers an exceptional ability to disperse a multitude of adversaries in a single action. With this feature, players can emit a potent roar, causing all nearby opponents to recoil, providing the perfect opportunity for a subsequent attack.

Beyond the mentioned skill, enhancing the Troll’s Golden Sword will primarily boost its Strength from a low D to a more tolerable C level. Nevertheless, regular updates in Elden Ring’s patches have significantly improved the effectiveness of the Troll’s Golden Sword, particularly its rolling and crouching attacks, as well as the Troll’s Roar Skill attack.

20 Watchdog’s Greatsword

Easily Stagger Enemies

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – C, Dexterity – E
  • Location: Dropped from Watchdogs enemies found in Mountaintops of the Giants

In Elden Ring, unlike other weapons that are often found through exploration or defeating bosses, the Watchdog’s Greatsword is acquired differently – by repeatedly defeating the Lesser Watchdog foes in the snowy area instead.

Using this massive weapon grants players a frequently useful skill that’s effective at knocking down opponents, particularly the bigger ones. Regarding its growth, enhancing the weapon won’t alter its Dexterity compatibility, but it will improve Strength’s C rating to a satisfactory B by level +3.

19 Troll Knight’s Sword

Unleash An Intense Roar

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – D, Intelligence – D
  • Location: Dropped from the Troll Knight in Caria Manor, Liurnia of the Lakes

The is eerily similar to the Troll’s Golden Sword in Edlen Ring. Both possess the same Skill, Troll’s Roar, and both scale with Strength and Dexterity. However, there are some noticeable differences, like how the Troll Knight’s Sword requires an additional stat, which is Intelligence, and the fact that both Strength and Dexterity become C.

To yield the Troll Knight’s Sword effectively, a character must meet the minimum prerequisites of 20 Strength, 14 Dexterity, and 18 Intelligence in Elden Ring. By enhancing these attributes through leveling up and improving the weapon using Somber Smithing Stones, players will undoubtedly appreciate the experience of wielding the Troll Knight’s Sword.

18 Staff Of The Avatar

Ground Slam Enemies

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – C, Dexterity – E, Faith – D
  • Location: Dropped from the Erdtree Avatar in Deeproot Depths

Besides inflicting significant harm when striking its target, this unique ability also eliminates large groups of foes. The Erdtree Slam stands out as one of the top ground slams within Elden Ring, enabling players to leap high into the air before crashing back down with immense force, generating golden shockwaves that dispense holy damage.

As a gamer, I’ve found that the Staff of the Avatar is an incredibly helpful tool for maneuvering through both bosses and enemies with ease. However, its ground slam ability becomes practically redundant during end-game stages because most bosses are resistant to holy damage. Consequently, it’s up to us Tarnished to make the best of the staff’s physical attacks and hope for a lucky break.

17 Gazing Finger

Fight With The Head of Metyr, Mother Of Fingers

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – C, Intelligence – D, Faith – E
  • Location: Purchased from Enia upon receiving the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers at Roundtable Hold

Despite a base Intelligence requirement of 20, the character’s Intelligence will only increase with Strength (20), Dexterity (8), and Faith (14) as levels progress. Initially, Intelligence remains unchanged at a D level, while Strength and Faith improve to B and E respectively. These stats are attainable by most players, so anyone can obtain the Gazing Finger if they wish.

After finishing the Cathedral of Manus quest in Elden Ring SOTE, players need to journey to the final ruins and battle Metyr, the Mother of Fingers, to acquire the Remembrance. The skill associated with the colossal weapon, Kowtower’s Resentment, enables users to charge the weapon, then bow it down to shatter it on the ground, dealing moderate damage, while lifting it sends a shockwave towards unaware opponents.

16 Envoy’s Greathorn

Terrify Enemies With Bubbles

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – D, Faith – D
  • Location: Dropped by farming the Giant Oracle Envoy in Miquella’s Haligtree

In my Elden Ring adventures, I’ve discovered that the Giant Oracle Envoy’s weapon is one of the scarcest treasures a player might stumble upon. Only when you’ve reached 100 Discovery does there stand a 2% chance of snagging this unique weapon from the Giant Oracle Envoy himself. This bad boy comes equipped with an extraordinary skill, the Great Oracular Bubble. By blowing into the Greathorn, I can send a massive bubble hurtling towards my foes. Catching unsuspecting groups in its path is particularly fun because when this bubble makes contact, it explodes, taking out most of them. To top it off, this bubble deals holy damage that’s amplified by donning the Envoy Crown.

As an ardent Elden Ring player, I can’t hide my enthusiasm for a rather unconventional playstyle: vanquishing adversaries and toppling bosses with the aid of bubbles! Now, while the Envoy’s Greathorn packs a potent punch, it’s essential to note that enhancing this weapon won’t significantly boost its stats scaling. This implies that the weapon will consistently dish out reasonable damage in any scenario.

15 Axe Of Godfrey

The First Elden Lord’s Weapon

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – D
  • Location: Purchased from Enia upon receiving the Remembrance of Hoarah Loux at Roundtable Hold

Overcoming the First Elden Lord, Godfrey, players can acquire his formidable axe, the Godfrey’s Axe. While this massive weapon is mainly influenced by your Strength and Dexterity stats, enhancing the Dexterity stat has no additional impact on upgrading the Godfrey’s Axe.

The has a unique Skill called Regal Roar that boosts Tarnished’s overall damage and sends a huge shockwave that cannot be guarded. The Skill is very useful against a group of enemies but may cause hindrance against single targets, making it a bad choice for PvP. That’s because the war cry leaves players vulnerable, and any attack will cancel the move. Additionally, the Axe doesn’t have much range like other colossal weapons in Elden Ring since it’s required to be up and personal with the enemy to cause decent damage.

14 Giant-Crusher

Crush Anyone In Your Path

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – C
  • Location: Chest south of Outer Wall Phantom Tree site of grace in Altus Plateau

As a seasoned warrior who’s spent countless hours honing my combat skills, I can confidently say that this lesser-known weapon truly shines when fully upgraded and wielded by a Strength-based build. Compared to the ever-popular Greatsword, it packs quite the punch in terms of damage output. However, let me tell you, it falls short in range and aesthetics – it’s as if they’ve attached a cinderblock to the end of a pipe! But for those who prioritize raw damage over reach and style, this weapon is simply unmatched. It’s not the sleek, polished Greatsword, but it gets the job done in its own rough-and-tough way.

With the latest update, reducing the size of the Giant-Crusher’s swing speed and recovery time, I find myself even more empowered in combat. It was already formidable before the 1.04 patch, but now it feels downright unstoppable! Combining it with Ashes of War like Lion’s Claw or Royal Knight’s Resolve only serves to make any foe into a flattened pancake. What a time to be a fan!

13 Fallingstar Beast Jaw

Stun Enemies With An Electrified Horn

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – D, Intelligence – E
  • Location: Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast in Mt. Gelmir

Battling the Fallingstar Beast at Mt. Gelmir in Elden Ring represents one of the most difficult trials within the game, yet the payoff is significant. This is due to the fact that its weapon skill essentially functions like a cheat, making it seem almost exploitable.

As someone who’s spent countless hours battling various bosses in this game, I can confidently say that the weapon skill you’re referring to is a real game-changer. It fires a gravity lightning bolt at an opponent, making them stumble and break their poise. This ability can be used repeatedly from a safe distance, which makes it perfect for dealing with bosses that are easily stun-locked, like the ever-elusive Blade of Miquella. I’ve found myself relying on this skill more and more as I progress through the game, and it’s definitely made some tough battles much easier to manage.

12 Royal Greatsword

Obtained At The End Of Ranni’s Quest

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – E, Intelligence – D
  • Location: Drops from Blaidd after players kill him

Prior to update 1.04, the Colossal Weapon was often perceived as a slower, less effective alternative to the Darkmoon Greatsword. Its scaling properties were also peculiar for a colossal weapon, leaving many players confused about its purpose or simply disliking it.

As a fan, I’m thrilled about the enhancements made to the Royal Greatsword! With higher damage output and reduced recovery time for colossal weapons, this bad boy is now a solid choice. The weapon skill’s damage has been beefed up too, allowing it to dish out massive blows that cause Frostbite. Plus, it’s going to be more common in PvP, so get ready to feel its might!

11 Grafted Blade Greatsword

A Legendary Armament

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – C, Dexterity – E
  • Location: Leonine Misbegotten boss in Castle Morne at the Weeping Peninsula

Originally, the crafted item was merely an awkward heap of swords that vaguely imitated the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones. However, with update 1.04, it’s transformed into a weapon fitting of its appearance. The damage output on this weapon has significantly improved.

As a seasoned adventurer with years of combat under my belt, I must say that this weapon has become one of my favorites. The damage it delivers is nothing short of impressive, reaching up to 1,200 points with jump attacks, which is reminiscent of the mighty Guts Greatsword. However, the reduced swing and recovery speed make it a joy to use, as it minimizes the risk of getting caught off guard during battle. The weapon skill, being a smaller version of a well-known ability, adds versatility to my arsenal, making it an indispensable tool in my quests. All in all, this weapon has proven itself to be a valuable addition to any adventurer’s equipment.

10 Zweihander

A Classic Choice

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – D
  • Location: Isolated Merchant in Weeping Peninsula

Veteran players might consider this old friend trustworthy at this point, seeing as it’s been a constant companion throughout numerous games. Indeed, it has reappeared, just as formidable as before, boasting broad, expansive arcs for its standard attacks and massive overhead swings.

1. The length of the weapon ensures maintaining a safe space, and its unique abilities, either Art or Ashes of War, enable players to counterattack while taking damage for a high-risk, high-reward strike. Moreover, the scaling property is beneficial as it allows many players to carry secondary weapons due to this weapon’s preference for Quality builds.

9 Greatsword

A Berserk-Inspired Weapon

  • Scaling: Strength – C, Dexterity – E
  • Location: In an immobile caravan in Dragonbarrow, Caelid

Then again, some players might prefer the slow and raging testosterone associated with a pure Strength weapon such as the . Despite the name, it falls in the Colossal Weapon class. It’s also a homage to Guts’ Dragonslayer weapon from Berserk.

Similar to its main influence, the Greatsword bears a resemblance to a massive, untamed piece of iron. While it certainly excels at splitting foes apart, its considerable size also makes it an effective shield; deflecting over half of enemies’ physical attacks and a similar amount of other damage as well.

8 Ruins Greatsword

Requires A Whopping 50 Strength

  • Scaling: Strength – B, Intelligence – D
  • Location: Misbegotten Warrior & Crucible Knight boss fight in Redmane Castle Plaza, Caelid

Originally, this object was merely a chunk of space debris that had fallen to Earth, but a brilliant blacksmith had the ingenious idea to transform it into a weapon after it was struck by a meteorite. Somehow, they managed to tap into the power of the meteorite, which is evident in its enchantments as shown in the Ashes of War.

Beyond causing physical harm, it also releases magical gravitational assaults, which come included with every powerful or charged attack at no extra cost. In addition, the weapon’s ability empowers its user to inflict an overwhelming amount of otherworldly pain in a single direction or around them, making it effective against enemies from a distance as well.

7 Devonia’s Hammer

One Of The Many Crucible Knights’ Weapons

  • Initial Scaling: Strength – C, Dexterity – E, Faith – D
  • Location: Defeat Devonia, Crucible Knight near the Ancient Ruins of Rauh

In the game, Devonia’s Hammer requires a character to have 30 Strength, 13 Dexterity, and 19 Faith. When this special ability, known as Devonia’s Vortex, is activated, players lift the hammer over their head, whirl it swiftly, and then bring it crashing down in a mighty strike.

The weapon requires Somber Smithing Stone to level up, and upon reaching the final upgrade, all the initial scaling changes. Strength becomes a decent B, while Dexterity and Faith become D and C, respectively.

    6 Prelate’s Inferno Crozier

    Smash Enemies To The Ground

    • Scaling: Strength – C, Dexterity – E
    • Location: From an enemy wielding it in Fort Laiedd near Seethewater Terminus, Altus Plateau

If you’re yearning to effortlessly toss around sizable adversaries as if they were flapjacks, then I’d wholeheartedly recommend the fiery behemoth known as the Gravelstone Hammer. This colossal hammer bears a striking resemblance to Executioner Smough’s weapon in the captivating world of Dark Souls. However, unlike its predecessor, this one boasts an integrated fire ability within its weapon skill set.

The ability, or Ashes of War, is a powerful charge move where the weapon transforms into a rolling ball of fire, scorching everything it rolls over until it strikes its target. Any enemy struck will be sent flying and seared, essentially cooking them for the user to consume later.

    5 Shadow Sunflower Blossom

Headbutt Enemies To The Ground With An Oversize Flower

    • Initial Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – E, Faith – D
    • Location: Purchased from Enia upon receiving the Remembrance of the Shadow Sunflower at Roundtable Hold

Venture deep into the Church District’s eerie Shadow Keep to locate the Scadutree Base. Within this location, you must vanquish a certain enemy to obtain the desired item. Once defeated, the Tarnished can utilize the Shadow Sunflower Blossom Colossal Weapon if they fulfill the necessary conditions: having a Strength of 24, Dexterity of 8, and Faith of 25.

When players execute the unique move, Shadow Sunflower Headbutt, the sunflower head is lifted high before slamming down hard, causing a powerful shockwave and inflicting significant damage. The weapon’s effectiveness primarily depends on Strength, Dexterity, and Faith. Fully upgrading it will boost the Faith scaling from D to B.

    4 Ghiza’s Wheel

    The Infamous Pizza Cutter

    • Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – D
    • Location: Inquisitor Ghiza in Volcano Manor, Altus Plateau

Directly inspired by the game “Bloodborne”, there exists a colossal weapon in “Elden Ring” that inflicts one of its deadliest damage effects: Bleed or Hemorrhage. This weapon can be thought of as a massive rotating blade on a pole, often compared to a pizza slicer, but instead of slicing pizzas, it’s more like it’s cutting through demigods and other players. It’s the same weapon wielded by the terrifying Iron Virgin enemies as well.

Regardless of the situation, Ghiza’s Wheel is infamously powerful as a bleeding weapon due to its ability to let the user spin the weapon’s edge, tearing into the flesh of their opponents in a relentless rotation.

    3 Godslayer’s Greatsword

    The Fastest Colossal Weapon

    • Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – D, Faith – D
    • Location: Chest behind Godskin Apostle boss in Divine Tower of Caelid

Although the Godslayer Greatsword carries the ‘Colossal Weapon’ label, it has surprisingly quicker animation intervals compared to other ultra-Greatswords. This speed advantage, combined with its immense damage potential due to Faith scaling, makes it a superior choice. Furthermore, it’s an ideal fit for Paladin builds.

It also comes with an astonishing weapon skill called the Queen’s Black Flame, which allows the wielder to unleash some diagonal slashes imbued with black flames that significantly increase the weapon’s range. Any Strength/Dex-based pyromancers will have fun with .

    2 Maliketh’s Black Blade

Wield The Power Of Destined Death

    • Scaling: Strength – D, Dexterity – E, Faith – D
    • Location: Remembrance of the Black Blade, which drops from the Maliketh boss fight

As a devoted fan, if you’re seeking an exceptional Strength/Faith weapon, I’d wholeheartedly recommend the Radagon’s Sword, a splendid prize for vanquishing Maliketh and bartering his soul to obtain it at the Roundtable Hold. One aspect that truly sets it apart from other colossal weapons is its unique weapon skill.

With the “Destined Death” ability, you can launch a rapid series of attacks over a vast distance that deals significant poise damage. Many gamers found it simple to defeat Malenia, the challenging boss, using this weapon due to its ability to repeatedly stun her.
