As someone who’s spent countless hours tending to my very own Slime Ranch, let me tell you – growing the right crops for your Largos can be the difference between a thriving ranch and a slime-less existence!
In order to progress quickly in Slime Rancher, it’s essential for players to master the optimal Largo combinations on their farms. This means collecting the most valuable Plorts from these Largos, which will help them access new regions and upgrades more rapidly. A crucial aspect of maintaining healthy, content Largos is providing them with their preferred foods regularly.
It’s fortunate that when players merge two slimes, the resulting ‘largo’ enjoys both parent slime’s favorite foods. This makes it incredibly convenient to look after and earn from slimes that were originally meat-eating. Understanding which crops to cultivate is crucial for maximizing profits in Newbucks. Players must ensure they satisfy the dietary preferences of all their slimes and largo combinations.

7. Cuberries
A Great Starter Crop
Initially, new players find it convenient to gather Newbucks from the nearby Pink slimes. However, Pink Plorts don’t hold significant value. To speed up their income generation, they can explore slightly beyond the ranch to harvest Phosphor and Tabby slimes instead.
As a devoted fan, I’d express it like this: In my world, the Phosphor Tabby Largo, a creature I adore, thrives on a diet of meat and juicy fruits. Since Cuberries are the Phosphor Slime’s preferred treat, this Largo too, cherishes them as its favorite snack, reducing the need for me to offer it meat. Cultivating Cuberries not only satisfies my Largo’s cravings but also rewards me with 22 Newbucks each time it drops either type of Plort!

5. Mint Mangoes
Taming The Hunter
Hunter Slimes are naturally aggressive, preferring to consume other Plorts they come across. This act makes them hostile towards the player. However, offering them a chicken can instantly pacify them. Keeping chickens, though, can be quite troublesome. Pairing a Hunter slime with a Honey slime can help control its insatiable meat cravings.
The preferred dish for the Honey Slime is Mint Mangoes. When players combine the Honey Hunter Largo Combo, the resulting creature will enjoy eating Mint Mangoes and chickens. It’s crucial to cultivate these fruits since Honey Slime Plorts carry a base value of 60 Newbucks, while the base level Honey Slime Plorts are worth 45 Newbucks.
4. Oca Oca
An Alternative To Odd Onions
One interesting largo combo is the Rad Crystal largo. The Rad slime can be quite dangerous as it emits radiation, which can severely hurt the protagonist over time. Its Plorts have a base value of 45 Newbucks, which is okay on its own but could still be better.
The Crystal goo isn’t naturally harmful, but its spikes could injure players who don’t realize they’re too near. Moreover, these creatures can spawn harmful spikes on the ground around them. Their basic Plort value is 60 Newbucks. Its main drawback lies in its preferred food, the elusive Odd Onion, which may or may not grow when needed. Luckily, the Rad slime prefers the Oca Oca, making it an excellent choice for swift financial growth when farming.
3. Phase Lemons
Taming The Carnivore
In the untamed wilderness, you might come across rare Saber slimes. Yet, collecting them can be risky due to their wild nature. Their inherent ferocity often makes it difficult to approach and retreat safely. Once isolated, maintaining their contentment can prove challenging as they are carnivorous creatures. Despite this, each of their Plorts is worth a substantial 60 Newbucks, making the endeavor potentially rewarding.
To effortlessly multiply Saber slimes, players should cultivate Saber Quantum largos instead. Unlike raising chickens, Phase Lemons used for feeding them are simple to farm. Each Phase Lemon yields a base value of 60 Newbucks when combined with largos during gameplay, providing a consistent income throughout the player’s journey.
2. Silver Parsnips
A Profitable Venture
Knowing Saber Slimes offers a reasonable return for the Plorts they generate. However, it’s important to consider that taking care of these creatures can be demanding, especially compared to raising chickens which might cause stress. If the slimes don’t produce at an acceptable pace, there’s always the risk they may get agitated, making the 60 base Newbucks quite a challenge to earn.
Contrarily, Mosaic slimes can pose a significant risk if players aren’t properly prepared. These slimes generate abnormalities in their immediate surroundings and ultimately ignite the ground. However, their Plorts hold a base value of 75 Newbucks, which makes them a valuable addition to your ranch. Cultivating a Saber Mosaic largo can yield a highly lucrative large-sized slime that feeds on Silver Parsnips, making this crop indispensable.
1. Prickle Pears
The Best Crop For Money-Making Largos
One of the most lucrative largo combos is the Tangle Dervish largo. The Tangle and Dervish slimes both have base Plort values of 75 Newbucks. Tangle slimes are carnivores, which can be inconvenient. They also need to be placed away from other corrals to ensure they can’t eat other Plorts by extending their roots. If they’re too close, they can create a Tarr outbreak.
Dervish slimes are herbivores that particularly enjoy Prickle Pears. Crafting a Tangle Dervish Largo lets players adopt a plant-based lifestyle in the game. This makes it simpler to manage these creatures, and they can also earn a substantial amount of Newbucks simultaneously.
