Best Delicious In Dungeon Dishes, Ranked

One of my preferred dark fantasy mangas is “Delicious in Dungeon,” which I absolutely adore. This manga has been beautifully animated by Studio Trigger and has garnered positive reception.

In the show, an intriguing ensemble of outcasts transform into political party members as they journey through diverse dungeon levels, defeating mythical beasts and fantastic entities along the way.

The star attraction of the performance lies in the way it skillfully prepares these exquisitely designed dishes, some of which are simple comfort foods while others are so extravagant they could receive multiple Michelin Stars in reality.

Here, I’ve arranged a top 10 list of my most cherished dishes from the series, considering their narrative importance and how skillfully Chef Senshi prepares them for his companions.

10. Barometz Balut

Trust Building Dish

Izutsumi is introduced quite late in the story, and she is quite distrustful of her party members.

As a devoted fan, I must share an exciting moment: Senshi earned my trust by preparing the captivating Barometz Balut, reminiscent of tender lamb chops. To my astonishment, this exotic fruit unveiled a miniature sheep inside! With deft skill, Senshi expertly sliced ribs from its tiny figure and grilled them to perfection.

As the ribs simmer, Senshi concocts a sauce directly from the fresh fruit. Once tender, the ribs are smothered in this homemade delight, leaving Izutsumi utterly amazed by the scrumptious result.

In its essence, the dish might seem straightforward, yet it serves as a powerful medium for expressing emotions within the anime, a truth vividly demonstrated by Senshi and Izutsumi throughout the entire scene.

9. Ice Golem Savory Egg Custard

Battling The Cold

In Japan, a beloved dish called Savory Egg Custard is often prepared, and it’s Senshi who concocts this delicacy by employing the components hidden within an Ice Golem.

After their chilling battle against the golem, Senshi aims to thaw everyone by preparing a heartwarming meal. The charm of this part lies in how the dish not only revives their frozen bodies but also rekindles their bonds as they share it together.

The liquid is prepared from the fish discovered within the golem, while the creamy dessert is concocted with a harpy’s egg, dream fragments, various mushrooms, shifter flesh, and mandrake foliage.

While serving the meal, Senshi takes the opportunity to instill some table etiquette in Izutsumi, explaining that it’s polite for everyone to be seated before they all begin dining together.

The final moments of the scene find Chilchuck expressing his regret for referring to Izutsumi as a monster, a gesture that is heartwarmingly sincere and leaves viewers feeling touched as well.

8. Roast Basilisk

Stuffed Greatness

Among the first dishes Senshi prepares in the anime is this one, which I felt compelled to include in our collection as the Roasted Basilisk brings back memories akin to the Thanksgiving Day Turkey.

After Senshi finishes removing the tail, legs, and feathers, the Basilisk appears quite similar to a roasted turkey.

Next, they fill it with healing herbs since the Basilisk meat is traditionally employed for curing a poisoned hero instead.

The method of preparing Basilisk differs significantly from turkey since it’s slowly roasted over an open flame instead. However, Senshi’s culinary skills never fail to impress, making the meal a delight for everyone.

7. Mandrake Kakiage And Giant Bat Tempura

Dungeon Fried Bat

In Dungeon Meshi, the process of creating the Mandrake Kakiage and Giant Bat Tempura showcases the unity and collaboration between Senshi and Chilchuck.

In a simpler and more engaging manner: Shinobi named Chilchuck catches a colossal bat, afterward dissects it into manageable pieces. Warrior Senshi removes the thick hide and further slices the meat into tiny bits. He then flavors the meat and whips up a coating using Basilisk egg, flour, and Mandrake tempura mix (Kakiage).

As Senshi gets ready to pan-fry the bat meat, Chilchuck takes charge by starting a fire and heating the oil, demonstrating their effective collaboration as a duo.

At first, Chilchuck struggles to create an ideal Giant Bat Tempura, but following several trials and collaborating with Senshi, they eventually prepare a delightful Giant Bat Tempura that everyone in the gathering finds irresistible.

6. Stone-Baked Cockatrice and Egg Ankake

A Dish For Everyone

One of the monster designs I adore most from the anime is the Cockatrice, which combines the characteristics of a chicken and a snake, where the snake functions as its tail.

In episode 16, the Cockatrice dish prepared by Senshi turns out to be intricate due to its unique ingredients – a monster’s meat and a Cockatrice egg.

Preparing the dish includes mincing and sautéing the meat together with spices such as Dryad berries and Mandrakes.

As a gamer, I’d say: “I layer the cooked barley at the bottom of a brick oven with a vent, then top it with some tender meat. Afterwards, I pop the brick into the oven to bake. To finish it off, Senshi fries up a Cockatrice egg in a pan and places it on top of my masterpiece.

Unlike many other dishes on my list, neither Marcille nor Chilchuck express doubts about the ingredients and fully appreciate the dish as is.

5. Living Armor Full Course Meal

Knight In Shining Plate

Within the depths of the dungeon, it’s not a typical knight that Laios and his companions battle – instead, they are facing an automaton disguised as a knight. The secret controller behind this suit of armor? A colony of mollusks hidden within its protective layers.

As a gaming enthusiast, I love exploring the culinary world too! I often experiment with cooking mollusks, turning them into extraordinary dishes. For instance, I whipped up a scrumptious Stir-Fry and a flavorful Soup with these sea delights.

Senshi even steams the headpiece of the armor and grills the other parts, which contain mollusks.

It appears that everyone except Laios shows signs of doubt and fear when it comes to sampling the finished goods, despite the fact that Senshi has incorporated antidotal and medicinal plants into his concoctions.

After Laios savors the flavor of the Grilled Living Armor and finds it delightful, it reassures everyone present. In this case, the knight in shining armor transforms into our feast for the day.

4. Nightmares Steamed In Sake

Cooking Dreams

Nightmares might be thought of as hidden creatures lurking within pillows, ready to instigate disturbing dreams in the one who rests upon them.

Marcille finds herself ensnared by the clutches of the Nightmares, yet she manages to break free in the end. As Laios discovers that her pillow harbors these creatures, he and Senshi become intrigued and choose to prepare them out of curiosity.

Initially, the Nightmares are washed thoroughly with hot water, afterwards they’re flavored using a mix of sake, butter, and soy sauce. It’s amazing how unusual ingredients can result in such a delicious dish.

What truly caught me off-guard was discovering that the steam rising from the dish resembled Marcille’s dream, which seemed particularly vivid during a night plagued by Nightmares.

3. Exorcism Sorbet

An Ice-Cold Surprise

In their attempt to drive away spirits using a concoction of sacred water, the group unintentionally creates what comes to be known as The Ghost-Repelling Sorbet, a brew originally designed by Senshi.

At first, Senshi confronts the ghosts on her own. However, later, Laios takes charge and snatches the jar from Senshi.

With a surge of adrenaline and bolstered by his determination to overcome the dungeon relying solely on his own might, Laios successfully fends off all the spectral enemies using vials filled with holy liquid. Upon closer inspection, Yūshi discerns that the container has solidified, transforming the sacred water into a solid mass.

To everyone’s astonishment, the ghosts had transformed the holy water into a refreshing dessert, reminiscent of ice cream in our ordinary world. At first, Marcille and Chilchuck hesitated to sample this peculiar treat, yet they eventually found themselves enamored with its flavor.

2. Red Dragon Meal

The Most Memorable Buffet

As a dedicated fan, I savored the thrill of slaying the Red Dragon, and what made it even more satisfying was Senshi’s exceptional culinary skills. In Delicious in Dungeon, he managed to prepare three distinct dishes using the dragon’s meat, making our victory feast nothing short of delightful!

Initially, he crafts the pizza crust by combining dough, onions, and cheese. Afterward, he carefully places this pizza within the Dragon, keeping it heated, using it as an ingenious replacement for a traditional fire source.

In addition to preparing the pizza, Senshi cuts off a piece from the dragon’s tail, slices it up, and simmers it in boiling water along with chopped onions and turnips for flavor.

Next up is the star of our meal, where Senshi grills the dragon’s flesh on scorching plates, giving it a steak-like roast. These three dishes are artfully arranged to offer a feast for all to savor together.

1. Hippogriff Soup

Trauma Dispelling Flavors

This dish might seem quite straightforward, but what truly sets it apart in the narrative is the poignant history tied to its preparation.

Creating this dish is simple, really; just boil some water to cook the meat and add salt for flavor. Before cooking, Laios transforms Griffin meat into Hippogriff meat using Changeling Mushrooms as a catalyst.

Senshi’s past trauma originates from a situation where, to stay alive in the dungeon, he had no choice but to consume the soup prepared from his fellow crewmember’s flesh, rather than the Hippogriff meat that his last companion provided him.

As I savor each spoonful of Laios’ soup, my heart swells with joyous tears. Its divine taste banishes any lingering anxieties about cannibalism, freeing me to press onward into the dungeon without a care in the world.
