While delving into the realm of Once Human, you’ll never have to face the journey alone. However, not everyone you encounter will be on your side. To prepare for battles, gather resources, or simply add interactive companions to your base, acquiring Deviants is essential.

What are Deviants in Once Human?
In simpler terms, deviants could be thought of as adorable beings akin to living toys or items in Once Human. Based on their specific kind, they grant various benefits to aid your survival in this post-apocalyptic landscape.
Deviants can be divided into four categories:
- Combat: They’ll assist you while fighting enemies that you find while exploring.
- Territory: They help with gathering resources, mining, and defending your base.
- Gadget: They specialize in crafting special items.
- Furniture: You can place them in your territory and interact with them as with a regular piece of furniture.
How to get & use a Deviation
I’m thrilled to be a part of the immersive experience that Once Human offers! In the main campaign, I get to take part in various events, finish quests, and make significant strides. As I wander around, I keep an eye out for Deviations – these peculiar anomalies manifest as orbs suspended in mid-air, housing strange creatures within them.
As a gamer, I’ve learned that to make the most of a Deviation’s abilities, I must keep an eye on its “mood swings” and “special powers.” The mood refers to its behavior during crafting, gathering, and battles, while the deviant power is what triggers the Deviant’s unique traits. To maintain their performance, I need to figure out how to replenish this power when it runs low.
To accomplish that, you should prepare a more suitable and secure setting for them. While constructing your foundation, consider the specific conditions your Deviant requires and check if they align with the desired secure environment in your Isolated Unit (some may have distinct preferences for lighting or music).
In the game “Once Human,” deviants can assist you in creating unique dishes. However, to access various resources more efficiently and minimize risk to your hive, you’ll need to establish a central base for them.
