In Anno 117: Pax Romana, players will soon be able to research new technologies called Discoveries. Building more Grammaticus buildings generates Knowledge, which speeds up research. Discoveries can unlock new buildings, improvements, military units, or helpful bonuses. Players will want to prioritize researching the most valuable Discoveries, though many will initially be unavailable.
As a fan, I’ve found that some of the coolest discoveries aren’t immediately available. You actually need to hit certain milestones in your city first – things like building a Shipyard and earning 500 Knowledge – before you can unlock them. They call these milestones ‘Inspirations,’ and they really make you feel like you’re progressing and earning these rewards!
Best Economic Discoveries To Research First In Anno 117: Pax Romana
The economic advancements in Anno 117: Pax Romana allow civilizations to become wealthier by increasing their production of goods.
Trading Post Improvements
- Upgraded Trading Posts have more ramps to avoid congestion and increase the island’s storage capacity.
As a player, one of the best things I’ve done is max out my island’s storage. Seriously, it stops everything from getting backed up! And since Trading Posts are where everyone goes to make money, keeping things flowing smoothly around them is super important – nobody wants to wait forever to trade!
Depots
- Unlocks the Depot building, which increases the island’s maximum storage capacity.
Even though there are many buildings you can build in Anno 117, you’ll want to prioritize the Depot as soon as you unlock it. Running out of storage space can really slow down your city’s progress.
Sewing Circles
- Buildings near your Spinners will produce Knowledge.
In Anno 117, researching Sewing Circles should be a top priority. Unlocking its knowledge will speed up the discovery of all other technologies. Don’t forget to build plenty of Spinners and position them close together to maximize their effectiveness.
Paved Roads
- Paved Roads allow for faster transportation of goods, which in turn extends the reach of buildings.
Although gathering a lot of Concrete is required to unlock this new feature, it’s a worthwhile investment. Every building in your city will improve, leading to overall prosperity.
Duct Irrigation
- Allows all farms to benefit from cistern irrigation, increasing their productivity.
With the Aqueduct Boost unlocked, aqueducts will become crucial, and farms will begin producing significantly more food.
Best Civic Discoveries To Research First In Anno 117: Pax Romana
As a city resident, I’m really excited about how much good can come from people getting involved in civic research! It’s not just about making things run smoother, but also about finding real solutions to improve our health, safety, and overall quality of life here. It feels like a win-win for everyone.
Wells
- Unlocks the Well buildings to help prevent fires.
Large fires are a major threat to cities, potentially causing significant setbacks. While firefighters are essential, their work is most effective when supported by a reliable water supply, like wells.
Market Focus
- +25% Effect Range of Markets.
If the Liberti people can’t reach a market, they won’t get what they need, making them unhappy and preventing them from advancing to become Plebeians. Expanding the reach of markets is a key goal, therefore.
Hospitality
- Unlocks the Officia building to accommodate Specialists, and allows one more Officium per island.
Having more specialists greatly benefits a city, making it a worthwhile pursuit. Because you only need a small number of them, discovering and utilizing them is also very cost-effective.
Latrines
- Increases Health nearby.
Constructing public restrooms will improve a city’s cleanliness and help stop the spread of illness.
Best Military Discoveries To Research First In Anno 117: Pax Romana
I’ve found you can actually play through the game without fighting any wars, which means I don’t always focus on the military tech tree. But honestly, it’s still a good idea to check it out every now and then, just in case I do need to build up my armies!
Repair Cranes
- Unlocks the Repair Crane building, which heals nearby ships.
If you’re using ships in wartime, building this structure is crucial. It helps maintain your existing fleet instead of constantly needing to create new ships.
Rammed Earth
- -30% Wall Upkeep.
Building walls for protection is a simple way to improve safety, but maintaining them can be expensive. This Discovery can help reduce those costs.
Stone Walls
- Unlocks Stone Walls, Gates, and Towers.
As a longtime city planner and fan, I’m really excited about these new walls! Yes, they’ll take a lot of concrete to build, but they’ll seriously boost our defenses. Plus, the gate is a great addition – we can close it quickly if we ever need to keep unwanted visitors out. It’s a huge improvement for our safety!
Armorsmithing
- Unlocks Armor Chain
Building and equipping an army is expensive, requiring both money and soldiers. Because of this, it’s crucial to prioritize their survival with better armor, particularly for those who intend to fight in battles.
Tacking
- +5% Movement Speed & -20% Unfavorable Wind Impact for ships.
This buff to ships not only helps in times of war, but will also benefit trading galleys.
Legionaries
- Unlocks Legionaries.
These soldiers are a staple of the Roman army.
