As a huge fan, I can tell you that Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles is an amazing tactical RPG, and what I love most is how much choice it gives you. It’s a really big game, and you’ll face some tough battles, so you *really* need to make sure all your units are perfectly equipped with the best jobs and stats. You’ve got to be prepared!
At the beginning of Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles, your character’s job options are limited, but several stand out as particularly useful. Here’s a look at the best jobs to unlock for your team as soon as you can.
Best Possible Early Game Job in Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles
Okay, so as someone who’s spent a *lot* of time with Final Fantasy Tactics, I can tell you the absolute best job to start everyone with is Squire. Seriously, it doesn’t matter if you plan on turning a unit into a powerful mage or a physical fighter later on – Squire is just the best in the early game. Why? Because Squires have some incredible skills that *everyone* will want. Things like getting more job points (JP) and learning Focus are huge for the rest of your adventure.
- Must Haves:
- JP Boost: 250 JP
- Focus: 300 JP (A self-buff that has 100% hit chance, so you always get XP and JP from using it)
- Good to Get:
- Movement +1: 200 JP
- Salve: 150 JP
- Counter Tackle: 180 JP
To unlock all the useful abilities in this popular tactical RPG, you’ll need to master the technique of JP Sharing. If you have five units that are all Squires, they can share job points, allowing you to acquire skills much faster. Whenever one unit earns JP, your other units in battle will receive one-quarter of the JP earned before any JP Boosts. JP sharing significantly speeds up your progress in unlocking all the skills and passives you require.
Important Notes About JP Sharing and Earning JP

- If the unit gaining the bonus JP in the above scenario (pictured above) has JP Boost or not, it doesn’t matter; the JP sharing equation is unchanged by the JP Boost skill.
- Job Points follow this equation when your units earn them: JP = [(8 + (JobLevel * 2)) + (UnitLevel / 4)] * [M]
- M is equal to 1 unless the unit has the skill JP Boost, when it changes to 3/2. This is a huge boost, even if it makes the Tactics job system even more complex to calculate.
- You do not earn JP for spells or attacks that do not hit. If you try to heal someone at full, this will not count to give your unit JP, and attacks need to actually connect to their target.
- Anytime your unit has nothing to do, have them use Focus on themselves, since it automatically hits and will give you guaranteed both XP and JP every time.
Best Jobs After You’re Done Being a Squire (Best Team Distribution)
