It’s tough to get all three right! Usually, something has to give. If a game leans heavily into the fantasy and RPG side, the survival stuff can feel a little weak or too easy. But if it’s all about surviving, the RPG systems – like character building and story – often end up feeling a bit thin.

Despite many games falling short, some successfully blend adventure, character creation, and strategic thinking. If you enjoy losing yourself in fantasy worlds, building a unique hero, and carefully planning your survival, these games are ideal. While Valheim didn’t quite fit our main list because its character progression isn’t as complex, it’s still a fantastic game worth exploring if you’re not bothered by that – it offers a lot of what players are looking for.

Live The Life Of A Bloodsucking Vampire

V Rising offers a fresh take on the survival game genre. You play as a powerful vampire, battling your way through a dark, gothic world. Like all vampires, you need blood to stay alive! The game adds a unique twist by limiting your activities to nighttime, forcing you to strategically plan your attacks. When darkness falls, you can raid villages and claim territory, gathering resources to build a terrifying and impressive castle.

So, you’re not alone in this world – I quickly learned that! There are these vampire hunters, soldiers basically, who are really after my blood, and tons of tough bosses to take down. Luckily, I’ve got a cool mix of sword skills and magic to use, and I can customize everything – from shapeshifting powers to different types of elemental magic. And like a lot of games I play, V Rising is way more fun with friends. Plus, if you’re into player-versus-player combat, you can challenge other vampires online. If you like action RPGs, I’d definitely recommend checking this one out!

Conan Exiles

A Harsh World Full Of Bloody Potential

Blending magic and mythology, Conan Exiles rightfully earns its place among leading fantasy survival RPGs. It offers a challenging survival experience, ideal for players who enjoy a deep level of gameplay. You begin with nothing and must progress by fighting, building a base, crafting equipment, and even enslaving characters. Throughout your journey, you’ll need to manage hunger, thirst, and temperature as you explore a vast world.

Whether you’ll enjoy this game really depends on what you like, but the best part for many players is the multiplayer. You can compete against others on servers, or team up with friends in your own private world for a cooperative experience. It offers incredibly detailed crafting and building, making it perfect if those are your priorities. Just be prepared for tough combat and a somewhat brutal world.

Enshrouded

Brave The Shroud And Build Your Home

I’m really excited about Enshrouded, even though it’s still in Early Access! It’s quickly become one of my favorite games to play with friends – seriously, it’s a fantastic co-op experience in the fantasy survival RPG world. You’re dropped into this world called Embervale, and you have to survive while figuring out what happened to it – a mysterious corruption called the Shroud has taken over. What’s so cool is how well it blends all the best parts of survival, RPG, and fantasy games. There’s a huge skill tree, so you can really customize your character and play exactly how you want. And the world itself? Embervale is everything I’ve ever wanted in a fantasy game – tons of different areas to explore, monsters to fight, and ancient ruins to discover.

Enshrouded also lets you build and maintain your own base, offering a lot of creative freedom and options. You’ll gather materials to craft a wide range of weapons and armor, with plenty of choices to suit different playstyles. If you’re looking for a vast fantasy world to explore and build a home in with friends, Enshrouded is definitely worth checking out.

Outward

A Brutal Dive Into An Unforgiving Fantasy World

Finally, we have Outward, a fantasy RPG known for being quite challenging. If you enjoy difficult games, especially those similar to the Souls series, this one is a great choice. Outward‘s world is dangerous, and unlike many RPGs, you can’t quickly travel around, so you’ll need to carefully plan your journeys. You’ll explore the world with a backpack and by setting up temporary camps, but be prepared – it won’t be easy. You’ll have to manage your basic needs like hunger and thirst, and getting hurt isn’t a simple fix with potions. Recovering from injuries is a slow and demanding process.

Even dying isn’t simple in this game – it throws unpredictable situations at you. You might be rescued by a helpful stranger, or you could lose all your stuff and wake up somewhere completely different on the map. This RPG demands careful planning and doesn’t offer much help along the way. If you want to become powerful, you’ll need to earn it by finding trainers and preparing thoroughly before each adventure. If that sounds appealing, look forward to the release of Outward 2 in the third quarter of 2026.
