The original Halo helped define the first-person shooter genre and showed how video games could deliver both thrilling action and compelling stories. That’s why a complete remake of 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved, called Halo: Campaign Evolved, is coming in 2026. This remake, built in Unreal Engine 5, will bring players back to the beginning of the Halo saga – and for the first time ever, it will be available on PlayStation! Whether you’re a longtime Halo fan or new to the series, it’s a great time to get excited and learn about all the confirmed features coming to Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Crossplay & 4-Player Support
Halo Campaign Evolved Will Support Crossplay, Split-Screen Co-Op, and Online for Up to 4 Players!
A highly anticipated feature of Halo: Campaign Evolved is crossplay, letting players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC play together. This brings consoles closer, allowing friends to team up regardless of their platform. Players can enjoy the campaign with up to four people online, or even two players locally using split-screen co-op. Imagine a campaign with four Master Chiefs, or a cooperative experience with a friend on the couch – everyone can join the adventure!
Three New Prequel Missions
A New Story Arc Involving Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson
Halo: Combat Evolved isn’t just bringing the classic 2001 campaign to PlayStation – it’s also adding brand new content that’s just as thrilling. Players will get to experience a three-mission prequel story focusing on Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson. While details are still limited – we don’t know if these missions will be available at launch or exactly what they’ll involve – it’s great to know that Chief and Johnson will be embarking on a new, dangerous adventure.
Newly Recorded Dialogue and Motion Capture
A Complete Overhaul of Sound, Visuals, Animations, and Cinematics
Halo: Campaign Evolved isn’t a simple remaster with updated sound; it’s a complete overhaul of the game’s visuals and audio. Players will experience entirely new graphics, cutscenes, and animations created with updated motion capture technology. Even better, the original voice actors, including Steve Downes as Master Chief and Beckie King as Cortana, have re-recorded their performances for this remake.
Destructible and Hijackable Vehicles
Bring Chaos to the Covenant By Stealing Their Vehicles, Including Wraiths!
Vehicles are even more dynamic in Halo: Combat Evolved. Players can now pile into Warthogs with multiple seats and enjoy driving – and flipping – them with friends. Plus, you can steal enemy vehicles, including powerful Wraiths, and turn them against the Covenant, creating all sorts of mayhem. These vehicles are fully destructible and can be taken over, offering a lot of opportunities for fun and chaotic gameplay.
An Expanded Arsenal of Incredible Weapons
Classic Weapons That Have Never Featured in the 2001 Classic
Halo: Campaign Evolved brings back the classic Halo combat experience, but with significantly improved graphics and smoother gameplay thanks to Unreal Engine 5. Beyond the feel of the game, players are eager to learn about the new weapons. Nine weapons from across the Halo universe will be included, such as the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle, though the rest remain a surprise. It’s worth noting that the dual-wielding feature from Halo 2 won’t be making a return.
Replayability: Thanks to Skulls
Campaign Replayability Comes from Gameplay-Modifying Skulls
Skulls in Halo: Combat Evolved add a lot of replay value to the campaign by making familiar missions feel new and challenging. They do this by changing how the game plays – things like enemy types, weapon locations, and even the levels themselves are randomized. These changes aren’t just about difficulty; they push players to adapt and test their skills, ultimately leading to a tough fight for both Spartans and the Covenant.
