Characters serve as the vital essence in the world of Final Fantasy. To keep players hooked, these personalities require captivating narratives that propel them on an intriguing adventure. It’s not just the plot that makes characters endearing to fans, but also several factors that contribute to their instant popularity within this series.
One reason among many is their interaction with each other and their ability to collaborate effectively when battling monsters. Typically consisting of a group of three, the series occasionally ventures into new territory, resulting in some truly enchanting combinations. Let’s explore the top parties in the annals of Final Fantasy.
7. Final Fantasy 9: Zidane, Dagger, Steiner, & Vivi
Rivalry Turned Friendship
In a stark change from Steiner’s unwavering allegiance to the monarchy, Zidane initially appears as a rogue figure at the start of the game. However, this difference escalates into a challenge when Zidane essentially abducts Princess Dagger, leading to immediate conflict between the two upon their first encounter. Intriguingly, Vivi, who seems out-of-this-world compared to the initial trio, quickly finds favor with Steiner once they meet, thanks to his extraordinary abilities.
The game skillfully portrays Steiner and Zidane developing a strong alliance as they tackle the significant issues within their world, making their interaction one of the most intriguing aspects of the game.
6. Final Fantasy 7: Cloud, Barret, & Tifa
An Avalanche Of Chemistry
In the opening of Final Fantasy 7, Cloud, Barret, and Tifa embark on a quest to shut down Midgar’s Mako reactors. Although the story takes an unexpected turn, it feels as though sabotaging these reactors-which are essentially draining the planet of its life force-is a climactic goal that should culminate in the endgame. However, surprisingly, this is merely the beginning of the journey.
This gathering stands out due to the distinct personalities of its characters, offering a refreshing change from what fans were used to in the series. The soft-spoken Cloud pairs excellently with the boisterous Barrett, while Tifa’s potential romantic involvement adds intrigue. Moreover, this party composition ranks among the game’s most robust and effective throughout its entirety.
5. Final Fantasy 10: Auron’s Original Crew
Time For A Prequel?
Without a doubt, Auron is one of the most popular and charismatic characters from Final Fantasy 10. He bears a resemblance to an older Squall from Final Fantasy 8, and he functions as a wise, mentor-like figure for Tidus, who sadly didn’t have much opportunity to learn from his own father.
The principal characters in Final Fantasy X aren’t particularly memorable compared to others, but the members of the party that the main cast are chasing seem much more entertaining. Having the opportunity to explore these characters further could have added depth to the story, and it would have been exciting to witness prime Jecht and Auron in action.
4. Final Fantasy 8: Squall, Zell, & Rinoa
Great Chemistry And Great Might
In the teamwork displayed by Cloud, Barrett, and Tifa during Final Fantasy 8, they took it to an even greater extreme. Squall is exceptionally reserved compared to Cloud, while Zell, despite his lack of a swearing habit, is the most impulsive character in that game. Lastly, Rinoa’s role as the main character’s romantic interest becomes even more apparent in this version.
This dynamic functions effectively because Zell consistently excels as an exceptional wingman, even when not explicitly needed, essentially throughout the entire game. Additionally, it’s worth noting that this party is among the strongest ever assembled in the annals of the Final Fantasy series.
3. Final Fantasy 12: Basch, Balthier, & Ashe
Some Of The Most Underrated Characters In The Series
In its initial design, Final Fantasy 12 was intended to have Basch as the primary character instead of Vaan. This makes sense since Basch’s narrative plays a more pivotal role in the game’s plot, and many players find him a far more compelling character. While Balthier is already adored by many, his appeal doesn’t need much explanation. Ashe is the main character in the story and also one of the most intriguing characters in the game.
Fortunately, in Final Fantasy 12, players have the freedom to customize their party according to their preferences. This enables them to arrange it not only in a manner true to its original design but also more enjoyable for themselves.
2. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Cloud & Sephiroth
Uneasy Alliance Perfection
As a devoted gamer, I can assure you that the group I’ll be teaming up with might not match the classic lineup you’re familiar with. To keep things exciting and unpredictable, let’s just say the characters have been shuffled a bit – details are best saved for when we’re further into the game.
Sephiroth, from Final Fantasy, is among the rare villains who once joined the team, and it’s something we’d love to see happen more frequently. The developers of Final Fantasy understand that showcasing a villain’s power can be achieved by having them destroy the main party. However, an alternative method – one that might be even more effective – is to have them join the party, enabling players to step into their formidable shoes and witness firsthand just how much stronger they are compared to our characters.
The transformation process in the game truly captures the essence beautifully. It skillfully balances the discomfort players feel while controlling a character who eventually becomes a monster, with the thrill of surpassing every opponent in the game due to their increased power.
1. Final Fantasy 15: The Gang
If There’s One Thing FF15 Did Well, This Was It
When initial videos of the long-awaited “Final Fantasy 15” revealed a dynamic reminiscent of a boy band, many critics dismissed it. However, they were mistaken, not because it was going to be a game about friendship in a literal sense, but rather due to its portrayal of a unique bond and camaraderie between the characters.
In this game, the friendship and interactions among Noctis, Prompto, Ignis, and Gladiolus are central, and they truly shine. Despite various issues in the game, primarily due to its chaotic and prolonged development process, the strong bond between these characters makes the journey not only worth taking but also quite unforgettable.
