Pokemon Legends: Z-A includes several strong Fire-type Pokemon, making it hard for trainers to pick just one. Plus, the game’s battle system is very different from traditional turn-based combat, so many familiar elements have been reworked.
Some Pokémon that were once considered the best might not be as powerful as people remember, while Pokémon previously seen as weak could actually be surprisingly useful now.
Emboar

Man, playing Pokemon Legends: Z-A, I’ve discovered that is an absolute beast when it comes to physical Fire-type attacks. It’s seriously powerful, only beaten by a few others in terms of raw damage output. And when it Mega Evolves into Mega Emboar? Forget about it! Its Attack stat jumps to 148, which is the highest of any Pokemon in the whole game. It’s a total powerhouse!
Emboar, a Fire and Fighting-type Pokémon, benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) on powerful moves like Close Combat and Flare Blitz. It also has a wide range of coverage options with moves such as Thunder Punch, Earthquake, Knock Off, and Head Smash. Additionally, Mega Emboar is tougher than it looks, possessing good Special Defense and HP.
Chandelure

Chandelure is a top-tier Fire-type Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and becomes even more powerful when it Mega Evolves. Even in its standard form, it has a fantastic Special Attack stat of 145, making it ideal for moves like Flamethrower, Overheat, and Shadow Ball. When it Mega Evolves, its Special Attack jumps to 175, solidifying its place as the strongest Special Sweeper among all Fire-type Pokémon in the game.
Ghost and Fire is a strong defensive combination because it doesn’t have any moves that are four times super effective against it, and only four moves that are twice as effective. It’s also completely immune to Normal and Fighting-type attacks. Because you can evolve Lampent into Chandelure fairly early in the game, Chandelure can be a very powerful asset for most of your playthrough.
Charizard

Charizard is arguably the most famous Fire-type Pokémon, and it continues to be a strong example of this type in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. While its initial form focuses on Special Attack and has generally well-rounded stats, this version of Charizard doesn’t stand out much compared to other Fire-types found in Lumiose City. It’s particularly vulnerable, with low Defense and Special Defense, and a major weakness to Rock-type attacks.
Things change dramatically with Mega Evolution. Mega Charizard X switches to a Fire/Dragon type, which fixes its biggest weakness and makes it strong both as a special and physical attacker. Mega Charizard Y, on the other hand, gets a huge boost to its Special Attack (reaching 159), making it incredibly powerful in almost any battle.
Houndoom

Houndoom is a Dark and Fire-type Pokémon that players can obtain quite early in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Because of its strong Special Attack stat, it’s a great choice for a Special Sweeper, particularly in the beginning of the game when battling less-evolved Pokémon.
Houndoom is normally quite fragile due to its low Defense stat, making it vulnerable to being knocked out in one hit. However, when Houndoom Mega Evolves, its Defense and Special Defense both improve to a solid 90, fixing this weakness. Mega Houndoom also gets a massive boost to its Special Attack and Speed, making it a very powerful Pokémon. What’s great is that players can obtain the item needed for Mega Evolution, Houndoomite, relatively early in the game, meaning Mega Houndoom is one of the first Mega Pokémon you can add to your team.
Camerupt

Camerupt is a Pokémon known for its strong defense, but it’s also a powerful attacker. Its Fire and Ground typing is a great combination for dealing damage, and it uses moves like Lava Plume, Earth Power, Flamethrower, and Earthquake to maximize its effectiveness.
While Camerupt has some strong points, its major weakness to Water-type attacks leaves it open to Pokémon like Greninja and Feraligatr. Mega Camerupt makes up for this with a huge increase to its Special Attack, letting it excel with Special moves. Also, Camerupt’s normally slow Speed isn’t much of a problem in battles in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which makes it even more effective throughout the game.
Delphox

Delphox is a Fire and Psychic-type Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A known for its strong special attacks, including moves like Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Psychic, and Mystical Fire. While powerful offensively, Delphox isn’t very durable and can be easily defeated by strong physical attackers.
Delphoxite isn’t obtainable until after you finish the main story in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, so you can’t use Mega Delphox during the core game. This means players are stuck with regular Delphox for most of the adventure, and it becomes less appealing as more Mega Evolutions become accessible.
Pyroar

I think Pyroar gets a little overlooked in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, honestly. Its stats aren’t amazing, but it’s still a solid pick! Plus, you can catch its pre-evolution, Litleo, super early in the game – it’s one of the first Fire-types you can get, alongside others, which makes it really useful when you’re just starting out.
Okay, so in battles, Pyroar is all about hitting hard and fast with special attacks. It’s definitely not a tank – it’s pretty fragile. Even though speed isn’t as crazy important in Pokemon Legends: Z-A as in other Pokemon games, it still makes a big difference. Basically, if Pyroar and another Pokemon are evenly matched, I can get more attacks off in the same amount of time because of its speed. That’s perfect for a Pokemon like Pyroar – it’s got a lot of offensive power but can’t really take a hit, so getting those attacks in quickly is key!
