Honestly, if you’re looking for huge RPGs on the PS5, you’re mostly gonna be playing them from a third-person perspective. I mean, games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are massive, and with PlayStation Plus, there’s a ton of older PS4 RPGs I can jump into too – it’s all third-person for the most part.
As a big RPG fan who loves playing games from the first-person perspective, it’s honestly tough to find really good ones. But out of the options available, a few really shine. I’m ranking these based on how good they are overall – not just how immersive the first-person view is. Dead Island 2
Hollywood Horrors
While not a traditional RPG, Dead Island 2 is still a really enjoyable and action-packed game set in Los Angeles, where you battle tons of zombies. You can improve your character by learning new abilities and creating stronger weapons. It’s satisfying to slice through zombies with swords, but even more fun when you add electricity to the mix!
Players can creatively use the environment to eliminate zombies – like tipping over an oil drum and setting it ablaze – and these dramatic actions help keep the fighting exciting.
The Forgotten City
A Smaller But Complex RPG
Many RPG fans may have missed The Forgotten City when it first came out. Though it doesn’t focus heavily on combat, it features intricate RPG elements. The game takes place in an ancient Roman city hidden underground in modern times, where players explore ruins and solve mysteries. However, be careful – attacking anyone will trigger a defense system of golden statues.
Okay, so this game has a really cool time loop thing going on, kind of like in Majora’s Mask. If you mess up or want to try something different, you can actually rewind time, which is awesome. It’s a little confusing at first, I won’t lie, but if you stick with it, you’ll uncover an amazing story – it’s got fantasy elements, sci-fi vibes, and it’s just super engaging. Seriously, it’s a story you won’t forget!
Borderlands 4
The Party Shooter Of RPGs
Borderlands 4 is likely the strongest addition to the Borderlands series since Borderlands 2. While it didn’t feature a villain as memorable as Handsome Jack, its updated gameplay and expansive open world made for a more enjoyable shooting experience.
The game features four unique characters, each with three different skill paths – for example, the Siren can summon demons or magical creatures. Players also have access to new tools like a digital motorcycle, grappling hook, and various weapons. All of this, combined with cooperative multiplayer, makes the game incredibly engaging.
Destiny 2
A Great Ongoing Experience
Since its release in 2017, Destiny 2 has consistently evolved with new versions, console releases, and increasingly ambitious expansions. While player numbers fluctuate between content updates, the game consistently draws players back with each new release – a clear indication of its enduring appeal.
This is a top-tier shooting game on the PS5, largely due to Bungie’s excellent design. While it doesn’t have as many different guns as Borderlands 4, players can always rely on the weapons they find to be accurate during their galactic treasure hunts. Plus, each character’s unique abilities add an extra level of excitement to the combat.
Avowed
Better Than Ever
Originally released on Xbox and PC last year, Avowed is now available on PS5, and this version is the best yet. It features smoother performance, added content, and enhanced controls. While the improvements are welcome, the game was already solid at its foundation.
This game lets you fully customize your character and make choices in conversations that really impact the story. The close-up fighting is exciting and feels great, and the magic system is remarkably detailed. Fallout 4

This medieval game, set in Bohemia, is remarkably detailed and offers a huge, open world to explore. While it starts a bit slowly in terms of both story and gameplay, players who stick with it will find a truly memorable RPG experience.
The Outer Worlds 2
Mistakes Are Made But Never Bad
Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds 2 features a variety of planets to visit, but its world design shares similarities with other games. However, for RPG players who enjoy deeply complex game systems, this title delivers. Each skill and perk unlocks new possibilities for exploration and conversation, and most quests offer multiple solutions, letting you play the way you want.
There’s no single, predictable way to overcome obstacles in The Outer Worlds 2 – you can either use skill and ingenuity, or simply force your way through. This freedom in how you approach challenges, explore the world, and complete quests is what makes the game so engaging.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim
The OG RPG
Originally released on the PlayStation 3, each new version of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has improved the game. While it might not look as polished as newer RPGs like The Outer Worlds 2, the core strength of the 2011 release – its incredible freedom – remains a standout feature.
In The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, players can choose to support different groups and develop their characters in countless ways, whether as strong warriors or powerful spellcasters. The game offers a vast and largely unrestricted world to explore, making it a great choice for PlayStation 5 owners.
Cyberpunk 2077
Your Choices Make The Story
When Cyberpunk 2077 first launched, especially on the original PS4, it was plagued with problems. However, through numerous updates, the release of a dedicated PS5 version, and the addition of the Phantom Liberty expansion, the game has significantly improved and players can now better appreciate the developers’ original vision.
For fans of immersive RPGs, Cyberpunk 2077 delivers everything you could ask for. It boasts stunning graphics, a beautifully realized and original world, and a captivating story with plenty of surprises, even in its side quests. These quests offer real freedom in how you complete them, adding to the overall experience. Simply put, Cyberpunk 2077 is a complete and satisfying game.
