Some games thrive on difficulty, forcing players to survive with minimal health and resources – and that can be really enjoyable. But other games take a different approach.
You know those games that just drop you in and say, ‘Here, be a god!’? Those are my favorites. They get that awesome feeling of just unleashing total chaos, doing things you shouldn’t be able to, and feeling ridiculously powerful. It’s not just about having strong stats or cool abilities; it’s about genuinely feeling unstoppable. They let you break the rules and live out these epic power fantasies where you’re just completely unmatched, and it’s amazing.
Saints Row 4
Where Superpowers And Utter Chaos Go Hand In Hand
Okay, so this game throws all realism out the window – we’re talking insane speed, moving stuff with your mind, and a massive city just made for causing awesome destruction. You play as the leader of the Saints, who also happens to be the President, and quickly find out everything is a crazy alien simulation. The answer? Become a full-blown superhero and just completely wreck the simulation from the inside out. It’s as wild as it sounds!
Soaring across rooftops, outrunning cars, and sending aliens flying into space… this game is a wild, open-world superhero experience. It leans into its over-the-top nature at every moment, and few games make you feel so powerful.
Prototype
The Power To Consume, And To Become
Playing as a monster has never been so enjoyable. In Prototype, you’re Alex Mercer, a man infected with a terrifying virus that lets him shapeshift and gain incredible powers. These abilities are both disturbing and incredibly fun to use. He can absorb his enemies to steal their appearance and even jump across entire cityscapes. Plus, he’s strong enough to slice tanks in half with just his bladed arms.
New York City transforms into a chaotic and violent playground where players uncover a sinister plot and leave widespread destruction. What makes the game truly special is how powerfully and realistically you feel your abilities. Throwing enemies across the street and into traffic, for example, is consistently satisfying.
Doom Eternal
A Demon’s Worst Nightmare
Okay, so I’ve been playing Doom Eternal, and seriously, this game just makes you feel powerful. Right from the start, with the insane metal soundtrack kicking in, it’s all about pushing forward and being super aggressive. It doesn’t just let you be strong, it rewards you for playing that way, making you feel like the ultimate hunter.
Defeating enemies rewards you with health, ammunition, and armor, creating a fast-paced cycle of combat that encourages constant aggression. Each weapon is incredibly powerful, making you feel like an unstoppable force against the demonic hordes.
God Of War: Ragnarok
The Quiet, Controlled Wrath Of A God
Kratos used to be known for his uncontrollable rage and destruction in the original games. However, in Ragnarok, he’s much more composed and thoughtful. But don’t mistake that for weakness – he’s still incredibly powerful!
The Leviathan Axe feels incredibly powerful with every swing, and the sound of it returning to Kratos’ hand is always satisfying. The game’s story adds a personal layer to his battles against gods, monsters, and fate itself, creating a stunningly beautiful, surprisingly emotional, and empowering experience.
Devil May Cry 5
Staying Stylish To The Very End
This game isn’t just about being strong; it’s about how you play. As Dante, Nero, or V, you can unleash incredibly over-the-top combos, sending demons flying in ways that defy logic. Earning a perfect S-rank feels truly rewarding, because it’s a testament to your own skill and creative style.
As a fan, I can tell you this game is all about over-the-top action! It really makes you feel powerful. You’re not just riding motorcycles, you’re turning them into weapons, and unleashing these incredible ‘Devil Trigger’ transformations that make the characters these whirling dervishes of demonic energy. Honestly, it’s just so much fun looking unbelievably cool while pulling off completely insane stunts.
Infamous: Second Son
Good, Evil, And Absolutely Overpowered
Delsin Rowe gains the power to steal abilities from others with superpowers, called Conduits. This gives players a constantly changing set of amazing powers to use. Whether it’s neon, smoke, video, or concrete, each new ability dramatically alters how you explore and fight your way through the stunning city of Seattle.
The game’s morality system really enhances the feeling of being powerful. Your choices between good and evil unlock unique and impactful upgrades. You can become a celebrated hero or a terrifying villain, but either path makes you feel like the dominant force in the city.
Asura’s Wrath
When Punching Becomes A Religion
Asura’s Wrath is wonderfully over-the-top! It completely redefines the idea of a power fantasy. You play as Asura, a demigod who’s been wronged, and the game is essentially a relentless series of epic punches. He fights his way through gods and colossal enemies, all driven by a quest for revenge.
This game isn’t like most traditional games—it’s closer to a wildly animated anime experience. What sets it apart is the unbelievably epic scope of its action. We’re talking about a hero who can punch through the moon and battles a god whose finger is the size of an entire continent. It’s completely over-the-top and doesn’t shy away from being absurd.
