Best Games Like Counter-Strike

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that Counter-Strike has always held a special place in my heart. Its simplicity and strategic gameplay have been the benchmark for tactical shooters ever since its inception. Over the years, numerous games have tried to emulate its success, but few have truly come close.

Many games strive to emulate or imitate the style and success of Counter-Strike, the renowned first-person shooter developed by Valve. Its popularity is largely due to its straightforward design, creating an opportunity for other games to experiment with similar concepts. Some have blatantly copied Counter-Strike, while others have made enough unique adjustments to establish their own identity and achieve success.

Here are some of the best games like CS out there right now.

Best Games Like Counter-Strike

In the realm of tactical shooter games, there are several options; yet, when it comes to those that closely resemble Counter-Strike (CS), there are essentially just two highly successful and widely-appreciated ones.

VALORANT

VALORANT, developed by Riot Games, shares much of its essence with the tactical shooter game, Counter-Strike. Several members from the VALORANT development team, including Salvatore Garozzo who designed maps for CS:GO, previously worked at Valve. Despite this similarity in core gameplay, VALORANT distinguishes itself through its unique characters, or agents.

In VALORANT, there are more than 20 distinct characters, each with their unique set of skills instead of traditional grenades found in games like Counter-Strike. Similar to weapons and armor, abilities in VALORANT also require charges for use if they were employed during the previous round. Similarities with Counter-Strike include customizable weapon skins and a vibrant esports community.

Rainbow Six Siege

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege shares similarities with Counter-Strike, but it takes the concept to a more sophisticated and detailed level. Similar to VALORANT, players select unique characters (referred to as Operators) who come equipped with distinctive gadgets and weapon selections. Unlike Counter-Strike, there is no option to buy gear between rounds, yet the core objectives of planting and defusing remain unchanged.

One unique aspect of Rainbow Six Siege lies in its innovative gameplay features. Notably, the maps allow for strategic environmental interaction, and an advanced surveillance system consisting of cameras and drones empowers players to pinpoint exact enemy positions accurately.

You can find plenty of options for larger-scale, tactical shooters that mimic military scenarios, such as Delta Force, Arma 3, and Squad. It’s worth mentioning that Fortnite ventured into the tactical shooter world back in December 2014 with the introduction of its Ballistic Mode, which is heavily influenced by Counter-Strike.
