Best Games the Nintendo Switch 2 Needs

It’s no surprise that Nintendo is thriving since the Switch 2 came out in June. Popular exclusive games like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Kirby Air Riders are driving sales, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is expected to be a strong title later in the year.

Looking ahead to 2026 for the Switch 2, fans are hoping to see a wider variety of games available. This includes both brand new titles and older favorites that the original Switch couldn’t handle. Many are also hoping Nintendo expands its selection of GameCube games, as the current library is limited. Several games, ranging from likely possibilities to hopeful wishes, would be a great fit for the new system.

The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess

In Lieu Of The HD Ports

Nintendo created excellent HD versions of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for the Wii U, but both games remain exclusive to that console. Surprisingly, instead of bringing the updated HD version of The Wind Waker to the new Switch 2, Nintendo included the original GameCube version when the console launched.

Nintendo could also include The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess from the GameCube. It’s a fantastic, darker game in the series that remains enjoyable today, thanks to its immersive world and unique gameplay featuring a wolf form.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Nintendo could also bring Metroid Prime 2: Echoes to the Switch 2’s virtual console. Like the first game, it offers strong shooting action and a world that gradually opens up as you unlock new powers.

Bringing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption to the Switch 2 would be fantastic, allowing players to enjoy the entire four-game series on one console after Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is released. Currently, though, the Switch 2 doesn’t have a way to play games originally released on the Wii.

Grand Theft Auto 5

While You Wait For Vice City

It’s not surprising that the Switch couldn’t handle Grand Theft Auto 5 with all its settings turned up, especially when you consider that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was successfully adapted to run on the original Switch. While GTA 6 likely won’t be playable on the Switch 2, Nintendo fans would probably be thrilled if they could finally play GTA 5 on a Nintendo console.

Nintendo and Rockstar could team up to include special extras, such as classic outfits or new missions. Characters like Waluigi and Wario would feel at home in the world of Los Santos, although Rockstar would likely need to update their appearances first.

Baldur’s Gate 3

A Game For The Storytellers

While Baldur’s Gate 3 has beautiful cutscenes with detailed character interactions, most of the gameplay is viewed from above, so you don’t get to fully appreciate the graphics. Despite being a massive game with tons of replayability, it might be powerful enough to run on the upcoming Switch 2 console.

Tactical RPGs, where you take turns making moves, are great for playing on the go because they often involve repeating battles to gain experience. If a game like Baldur’s Gate 3 were available on a handheld console like the Switch 2, players could enjoy it anywhere.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

A Reactive Turn-Based RPG

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a new turn-based RPG that would be a good fit for the Switch 2. Its focus on art style rather than high-end graphics means it likely won’t demand a lot of processing power from the system, making it easily playable.

Fans of Nintendo RPGs will likely enjoy this game thanks to its engaging, fast-paced battle system, which feels similar to classic Mario RPGs. It also features a traditional world map and plenty of content to keep players hooked.

Dead Space (2023)

In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream

The 2023 version of Dead Space is considered one of the most frightening and action-packed survival horror games ever made. Despite having a variety of weapons, players will still find the alien creatures, called Necromorphs, deeply unsettling.

The spaceship in this game is terrifying, filled with creatures lurking in the shadows, appearing through vents, and even forcing players to venture into the freezing emptiness of space. While a remastered collection of the entire trilogy would be ideal for the Switch 2, fans of horror would still enjoy experiencing the recently remade Dead Space.

Psychonauts 2

Platforming Dreams

Nintendo Switch and its upcoming successor already offer plenty of great 2D and 3D platforming games, and adding another wouldn’t harm the popular Mario franchise. Psychonauts 2 is a unique and creative platformer where you play as a new agent with the ability to read minds and explore people’s brains.

Honestly, I think the new ideas based on dreams and brainwaves are way more creative than what we saw in the first game. And it’s a bit strange to me that Microsoft let Double Fine put the game on PlayStation, but not on Nintendo Switch? It feels like they could reach even more fans there, and I’d love to play it on the go!

Roblox

Build Your Game

Roblox is popular with children, which makes it surprising it never came to the Nintendo Switch. While the game itself is free, players can buy cards to spend on things like clothes and accessories. Roblox isn’t really a single game, but a platform where users create and share their own games and experiences, and they’ve been doing so for years.

Honestly, no matter what kind of games you’re into – whether it’s jumping through levels, fast-paced action, or just a bunch of quick mini-games – you can find something cool here if you look around a bit. And seriously, Nintendo needs to keep supporting this game with new costumes – it would be perfect!
