One of the most enjoyable parts of gaming is developing your character, especially in role-playing games (RPGs). Games like Elden Ring, known for being difficult, become much easier once you acquire powerful equipment and level up. Then, defeating enemies feels effortless.
Man, there’s nothing quite like playing a character who feels totally invincible. Some games really lean into that feeling right from the start. These characters are basically forces of nature you just can’t take down. The thing is, once you’re already that powerful, leveling up doesn’t feel as rewarding as in a game like Elden Ring, where you’re constantly getting noticeably stronger. But honestly, even with that, these games are still awesome to play.
Donkey Kong Bananza
Smash And Grab
The game Donkey Kong Bananza is a standout title, showcasing Donkey Kong with more strength and power than he’s ever had in any other game in the Donkey Kong series.
This character is incredibly strong, able to break through rocks with just his fists and even turn broken items into weapons or makeshift surfboards. As he gains experience, he learns new abilities that make him even more powerful, but he’s already a formidable force capable of easily demolishing levels from the start.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Limber Heroes
In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, players can switch between controlling Peter Parker and Miles Morales. While both are agile and can dodge attacks, they have unique abilities. Miles naturally has bio-electric powers, letting him stun enemies, while Peter relies more on a variety of gadgets. As the game progresses, Peter also begins to unlock powerful abilities related to the Venom symbiote.
They can both trap enemies with strong webs, but even using only their dodging, kicks, and punches, these heroes are capable of protecting New York City – as long as players time their actions correctly.
Batman: Arkham City
I Am The Knight
In the Arkham games, including Batman: Arkham City, Batman relies heavily on stealth and ninja-like tactics. While staying hidden is still a key part of the gameplay, Arkham City gives Batman more protection, allowing players to engage in direct combat if they prefer.
The combat is addictive because you flow seamlessly between enemies, countering their attacks before Batman even strikes. It feels more impactful than in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – you really feel the power of Batman’s punches connecting with enemies’ bodies.
God Of War Ragnarok
Become A God
Kratos in God of War Ragnarok is an incredibly powerful warrior, even more so than in the 2018 God of War game. While the first game had a stronger, more focused story, Ragnarok was simply more enjoyable to play because Kratos had begun to move past his violent past.
Kratos stopped concealing his abilities from Atreus, letting players use his powerful axe and blades sooner and making the combat much more exciting. As a god, Kratos is an incredibly formidable warrior.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Slay Thousands With Ease
The Dynasty Warriors series, including its spin-offs, always makes players feel incredibly powerful, regardless of the difficulty setting. Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the newest installment and a great entry point for newcomers.
Players take on the role of a Wanderer who can master various weapons – swords, spears, and gauntlets, each with unique abilities. They’ll easily defeat hundreds of enemies in each level, giving them a real sense of power.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Heat Those Blades Up
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a spin-off game from the Metal Gear series, and it features Raiden. He’s become more cyborg than ever, making him incredibly powerful. During battles, players can briefly slow down time to precisely aim and slice through enemies with ease.
Raiden is incredibly powerful, capable of cutting through even massive Metal Gear machines, though some of the larger ones are designed as special challenges. Regardless, seeing him effortlessly slice through enemies, combined with the game’s amazing music, really emphasizes how awesome he is.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Become A Dark Jedi
In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, you play as Starkiller, Darth Vader’s hidden apprentice. The game begins when Starkiller discovers the Empire no longer needs him and decides to break free. Although players unlock the most powerful abilities later on, they’ll start with a robust set of combat skills, allowing them to experience the power of a Jedi from the very beginning.
It’s always enjoyable to defeat Stormtroopers with a lightsaber, but using the Force to throw enemies around – or even off cliffs into the darkness – is especially satisfying.
Doom (2016)
Slay King
The 2016 reboot of Doom successfully recaptured the spirit of classic shooters – games that focused purely on fast-paced action instead of complex stories or relatable characters. The player character, Doom Guy, isn’t developed much, but he’s become a gaming icon thanks to the incredibly satisfying, brutal combat and energetic metal soundtrack.
This new version of the game introduces a melee finisher system that helps players replenish their health and ammo. While shooting demons with shotguns is satisfying, ripping them apart with your bare hands – accompanied by a powerful guitar soundtrack – is even more impactful.
Bulletstorm
Watch Out For That Cactus
Bulletstorm aimed to bring back the fast-paced, over-the-top shooting style of 1990s games, focusing on creative and entertaining ways to defeat enemies, not just powerful guns.
I loved how you could really get creative with takedowns in this game. Like, I could pepper an enemy with bullets, then give them a final little kick into a cactus. Or, if they were far away, I’d grab ’em with my electric whip and boot them off a cliff! It didn’t really matter how many points you got, but it definitely encouraged you to try out crazy new ways to take down enemies, which was awesome.
Broforce
For Freedom And The Flag
Broforce is an incredible pixel art game that deserves more recognition – it’s surprising it hasn’t reached the popularity of games like Call of Duty. Each level lets you play as a randomly selected parody of an action hero, allowing you to blast, explore, and utterly destroy your enemies.
Okay, so one of the coolest things about this game is that you can absolutely wreck everything in the levels. Seriously, no two playthroughs are ever the same because the environment is constantly changing. Whether I’m playing solo or with a buddy, Broforce is just pure, chaotic fun. And honestly, seeing these over-the-top heroes who are clearly based on action movie icons like The Terminator and Rambo? It’s hilarious, and I can’t stop laughing!
