As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, let me tell you about three games that have captivated my attention recently. Each one offers a unique take on the world of law enforcement and prison life, though none of them actually require you to be a full-fledged guard.
Video games offer the captivating experience of assuming multiple roles and inhabiting various characters. From leading a revolution, surviving a zombie outbreak, or battling against rogue robots in the future, gamers have a wealth of choices at their fingertips when they’re up for an adventure.
It’s often overlooked that various professions don’t always receive the recognition they deserve, with some barely appearing even as side characters in video games. For instance, prison guards are seldom represented, making it challenging to find a game where one can assume this role and delve deeply into its aspects. Fortunately, there are a handful of games that, though not centered around this occupation, do incorporate certain elements related to it. These are the top games offering a prison guard experience.
5 Postal 4 – No Regerts
A Quick Mission With Too Many Liberties
- The Postal Dude gets to be a prison guard for a day.
- A comical, exaggerated take on the job description.
Let’s start with “Postal 4: No Regrets”, a game that’s been sparking debates among gamers for over five years now due to its contentious nature. Some players have appreciated the game and its unique humor, while others have panned it online, going so far as to claim it lacks heart or soul.
Regardless of the situation, it’s indisputable that Postal 4 boasts some strong instances, one of which being the mission where players assume the role of a prison guard, orchestrating a riot in the penitentiary they’ve entered. Following a brief conversation with the warden, the Postal Dude is appointed as a guard and must perform various duties such as maintaining order and preventing excessive violence.
In summary, even though the prison guard mission in Postal 4 isn’t lengthy or particularly amusing compared to other game missions, it offers players an opportunity to experience life from a correctional officer’s perspective. This mission provides a comical, over-the-top, yet occasionally enlightening glimpse into what the job might involve.
4 Prison Simulator
Live The Daily Life Of A Prison Guard
- Released: March 2012
- Developers: Baked Games, Console Labs
- Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Windows, PS4, Xbox 1
- Voice acting is a bit dull.
- Overall, the game offers a realistic insight into a prison guard’s day-to-day activities.
If you’re intrigued about what it’s really like to be a prison guard, the game “Prison Simulator” might just quench your curiosity. This game is considered one of the most authentic representations of working within the penal system. It offers an immersive experience filled with long hallways, subtle office politics among colleagues, a stern supervisor, and occasionally volatile inmates, ensuring countless hours of engaging gameplay for players.
It’s important to note that the dialogue options are somewhat simplistic, and the voice-acting could use some polishing. Given that it was created by a small indie studio working with limited resources, these aspects can be overlooked as they don’t significantly impact the gameplay experience. Players who want to test out this game can download a free demo on Steam, where they will assume control in maintaining order within a confined space housing numerous agitated prisoners.
3 Police Stories
From Police Officer To Prison Guard
- Strategic gameplay relies on resource planning.
- Occasional prison guard duties.
Police games are always fun to play, and the genre has been around in pop culture for several decades. Think Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, Rush Hour, etc. While Police Stories isn’t a comedy, it still has an interesting take on the daily life of a police officer and the hardships that the profession entails. This top-down shooter action game has tactical shooter elements, an interesting story, and likable characters: John Rimes and Rick Jones.
In “Police Stories,” you’ve got the option to play alone or with a partner. When you go solo, you’ll be in charge of John Rimes, but if you team up, the second player gets to command Rick Jones. Before embarking on each mission, you can equip your character with various items such as lockpicks, medical kits, flashbang grenades, ballistic shields, handguns, rifles, and other tools. Although the game isn’t primarily about prison guard work, it does feature some missions that involve entering a prison and handling related tasks.
2 The Escapists 2
Wearing Guard Clothes Can Go A Long Way
- Players can wear a guard outfit to blend in and make detection more difficult.
- Strategic planning is key.
In the style of a superior video game played from above, The Escapists 2 is the follow-up to the initial Escapists. The game tasks players with devising cunning and tactical methods to move around the prison that holds their character captive, ultimately aiming for an escape. To do this, players must use resources wisely, evade guards, steer clear of crowded areas, and any other elements that could raise suspicion and set off the alarm at the prison. Additionally, players have control over various aspects of prison life, including meal distribution, shower schedules, and even instigating riots – all to help them reach their goal: freedom.
In this game, though you don’t play as a real prison guard, there’s a distinctive uniform called “The Guard Uniform“, which helps the main character blend seamlessly among guards without being spotted. This uniform also reduces the speed at which “Guard Heat” increases, significantly slowing down detection times. To craft this uniform, players will require one set of infirmary overalls and a jar of dye to color them.
1 GTA Online: The Diamond Casino Heist
Franklin Gets To See The Other Side
- Franklin gets to be a prison guard for a day.
- Stealth is key.
Grand Theft Auto Online offers an enjoyable experience that broke new ground upon its release. Yet, for quite some time now, players have been expressing concerns about the occasional toxic atmosphere within the game’s sessions. This can range from users employing illicit hacks to sabotage others’ progress or enjoyment of heists, to individuals intentionally disrupting other players’ scores and missions. At times, the fun can be overshadowed by feelings of frustration.
Regardless, there are several interesting missions in GTA Online to keep players hooked for hours on end. One of the best missions in the game is the Diamond Casino Heist, where Franklin will have to enter a prison to kill a guard in order to steal the Diamond Casino vault keycards. Players will then have to hijack a prison bus disguised as the prison guard they just disposed of to gain entry to the casino without raising suspicion. While the mission is a bit short, it still provides a curious glimpse into what Franklin’s life might have been had he chosen a career in security enforcement rather than one in crime and grand theft auto.
