Best Horror Game DLC

Best Horror Game DLC

As a seasoned survivor of countless nights spent huddled under blankets, my heart skips a beat at the mere mention of these horror games. Each one has left its own unique mark on me and my fear-filled memories.

Not many video game categories draw players in quite like the thrilling realm of horror games. These widely appreciated titles challenge players to persevere, creating a chilling atmosphere brimming with terrifying entities such as demons, murderers, and beasts. This genre is replete with timeless classics; games that not only survive but thrive, being played just as much today as they were when initially released.

Game developers frequently provide Downloadable Content (DLC) to extend a game’s longevity. While minor add-ons might introduce new weapons, adversaries, or cosmetic items, some DLC packs offer significantly more. The most impressive expansions often introduce additional levels, narratives, and characters, enriching the game’s storyline and world. They delve deeper into the game’s background, offering gamers extra playtime filled with engaging content.

6 Dead Space 3 – Awakened

A Short Return To Horror

The Dead Space series gained significant recognition within the horror genre, largely due to Isaac Clarke’s harrowing encounters with the fearsome Necromorphs and the ominous Markers that created them. These experiences plunged players into a grotesque world of grisly dismemberment. Although the initial two installments featured pulse-pounding action, they remained quintessential horror games. However, Dead Space 3 shifted focus, favoring action over horror, although the horror element still played a significant role.

In expanding its player base, the new direction of Dead Space didn’t sit well with many dedicated fans. For them, the DLC for Dead Space 3, titled Awakened, was a closer representation of what they had hoped for from the main game. It delved deeper into the horror elements that initially made Dead Space stand out in gaming. In this expansion, Isaac Clarke and John Carver attempt an escape on the ship Terra Nova. Despite its brevity, fans of the first two Dead Space games will find this a satisfying addition to the series.

5 The Last of Us – Left Behind

An Immersive and Emotional Backstory

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but express my admiration for “The Last of Us.” This masterpiece rapidly climbed the ranks of the most critically acclaimed video games ever made. What drew me and millions of others worldwide was its unique blend of survival horror, stealth action, and deeply moving storytelling. The game’s gripping narrative was a global sensation.

In a mix of past and present events, “Left Behind” delicately weaves a heartwarming coming-of-age romance against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world, while maintaining a chilling horror gaming experience. The extension seamlessly switches between Ellie’s desperate efforts to keep Joel alive after he’s mortally wounded and her earlier encounter that led to her infection. Just like its predecessor, “The Last of Us,” “Left Behind” excels in both gameplay and narrative storytelling, ensuring a continuation that aligns flawlessly with the game’s narrative and characters.

4 Dying Light – The Following

A New Location Brings New Mechanics

In the open world of “Dying Light”, players delve into an action-packed horror adventure set within a quarantined city called Harran. This city has been overrun by a dreadful zombie virus, leaving only a handful of survivors huddled in the remnants of their once bustling city. Despite its focus on action, “Dying Light” offers a thrilling gaming experience that has earned it a dedicated fanbase.

This DLC offers a refreshing twist, introducing a novel narrative set beyond the city’s boundaries, titled “The Following“. In this continuation of Kyle Crane’s journey, he pursues a potential cure for the zombie epidemic. The DLC expands the gameplay, offering vast open areas teeming with zombies that players can clear using customizable dune buggies. The Following is an excellent extension to Dying Light, featuring an intriguing plot, a captivating change of location, and enjoyable new vehicles and weaponry.

3 Alien: Isolation – Crew Expendable

A Welcome Return to the Nostromo

As a dedicated gamer, I’d say that Alien: Isolation truly redefined survival horror for me. The game masterfully recreated the original movie’s aesthetic, but it was the nerve-wracking atmosphere and pioneering AI technology that truly left an impact. In this game, the Xenomorph wasn’t just a relentless predator; it was an adaptive hunter, learning from my movements and sounds. This meant I was never safe, always on edge, knowing that the Alien could strike at any moment.

The game “Alien: Isolation” was poised to become a timeless classic, and its exceptional expansion solidified this status. On the other hand, “Crew Expendable” delves into an alternate storyline of the original film. In this scenario, the crew of the Nostromo devise a strategy to expel the Alien after it bursts out violently. Given that “Alien: Isolation” draws heavily from the 1979 movie, this nostalgic DLC makes an ideal companion to one of the greatest survival horror games ever produced.

2 Resident Evil 7: Biohazard – End of Zoe

A Perfect Punch To End A Great Game

In “Resident Evil 7,” the established horror series returned to its survival horror foundations, resulting in a fresh take on the franchise. Featuring a novel protagonist, Ethan Winters, this game solidified Resident Evil’s position atop the horror gaming landscape once more. The narrative follows Ethan as he searches for his missing girlfriend and finds himself ensnared in a decaying mansion haunted by the twisted Baker family. This thrilling combination of terror and action keeps players on the edge of their seats.

In the outstanding downloadable content titled “End of Zoe“, the narrative is deeply rooted in its environment and focuses on Joe Baker’s mission to rescue his niece, Zoe, following the conclusion of the primary game. This exceptional DLC enriches the backstory of the Baker clan while incorporating engaging new features into the gameplay. As a former marine, Joe Baker is a no-nonsense character who communicates more through action than words. Players find themselves in the swamps, feeling invincible as they embody Joe and engage in hand-to-hand combat with numerous monsters that stand in his way.

1 Outlast – Whistleblower

A Chilling Companion To The Classic Survival Horror

Outlast is well-known for being one of the top survival horror games in current video gaming. Although it’s not exactly understated in its scares, the game centers around an investigative journalist who finds himself locked inside a hazardous asylum teeming with grotesquely deformed and psychotic assailants. Unlike other games, players don’t have any weapons at their disposal; instead, they rely on their camera’s night vision to navigate through the pitch-black hallways.

The downloadable content (DLC) titled Whistleblower serves as a supplementary tale, focusing on the character Waylon Park, a software engineer at Mount Massive. This expansion functions both as a prelude to the game’s events and a continuation, thus unveiling itself as a sequel. Consequently, this DLC seamlessly complements the main storyline, making it an essential extension for fans who loved Outlast and yearn for more.
