Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Holy Grail of Low-End PC Gaming

After years of anticipation, Silksong is finally here! And it looks and plays wonderfully – which is no surprise given the quality of the original Hollow Knight. Even though it’s been nearly a decade since Hollow Knight first came out, and Team Cherry is now a famous developer, Silksong remains a truly accessible indie game. You won’t need a powerful computer to play – the minimum requirements are a processor from 2012 and a graphics card from 2011. If you have a relatively recent system, you should be able to run it at the recommended settings.

It’s common for highly anticipated games to receive both praise and criticism, and Silksong is no exception. While it’s faced some scrutiny – as all projects do – the game has largely been celebrated for its engaging and difficult boss battles, solid gameplay, extensive content, and impressive world design. Silksong is known for being challenging, particularly for players new to the Hollow Knight style of game. Even experienced Hollow Knight players will need to adapt their strategies to succeed in Team Cherry’s newest game.

The game tells the story of Zagreus, the son of Hades, who is determined to escape the Underworld and reach Olympus. His father, however, strongly opposes this and makes the journey incredibly difficult. As a roguelite, Hades involves repeating levels, but it’s different from many others: even when you lose, the story continues to unfold and you still make progress, especially in the first 20 hours of gameplay.

Hades is a beautifully designed game with exciting, quick combat. Despite being an independent title, it looks and feels more refined than many big-budget games. What’s even better is that you don’t need a powerful computer to play it – Hades runs smoothly on less powerful hardware.

Ultrakill

It tells the story of Madeline as she climbs Celeste Mountain, a challenging journey that represents her personal struggles with depression.

Celeste is a challenging game, which fits well with its serious and thoughtful story. Most platforming games focus on fun gameplay first, but Celeste, released in 2018, uniquely blends gameplay and narrative so they feel deeply connected.

Cuphead

The game combines fast-paced shooting with platforming, but emphasizes the shooting much more. It’s a challenging game that demands precision, and can be frustratingly difficult for some. However, players who enjoy the difficulty may find it incredibly rewarding and become big fans.

Deltarune

A Masterpiece That Runs On Basically Anything

So, Deltarune is basically the game Toby Fox made after Undertale, and it’s been out on PC since 2018. Honestly, it’s had a bit of a slow release schedule, with chapters dropping pretty sporadically. But now, in 2025, it’s a perfect time to start playing! The first four chapters are all out, and there’s a ton of content to dive into. Chapter 5 is still coming, so the story isn’t finished, but trust me, you’ll be busy for a while!

Okay, so I’ve been playing Deltarune, and it’s a lot like Undertale – it’s a turn-based RPG, but it really messes with what you expect from the genre in a good way. Honestly, it’s unlike anything else I’ve played. The story is amazing, the art style is simple but really works, and Toby Fox is clearly swinging for the fences with some seriously ambitious ideas. The best part? It runs on practically anything, so anyone can jump in and experience it. Seriously, you should play this game.

Megabonk

Steam is full of games similar to Vampire Survivors, and their ease of play is a big reason why they’re so popular. These games are usually simple 2D experiences that can run on almost any computer, and they’re incredibly addictive. Megabonk fits into this category, but stands out because it’s in 3D.

Adding a third dimension to the gameplay significantly changes things in Megabonk, especially since the game focuses on movement and attacks happen automatically. Like other games in the genre, you’ll try to survive increasingly difficult waves of enemies and bosses, earning experience to unlock improvements and new abilities. The 3D environments make careful planning of your routes more crucial than ever, and there’s a lot to explore beyond just combat and collectibles. You also earn silver to purchase new characters, giving you a satisfying sense of progress.

Stardew Valley

I’ve always found farming games, and honestly most tycoon-style games, run really well on pretty much anything, which is awesome. They seem simple at first – plant crops, sell them, repeat – but there’s always so much more going on underneath the surface to keep you hooked. And when you talk about this genre, you have to mention Stardew Valley. It’s not just about farming; it throws in so many other things, and it does them all really, really well. It’s a fantastic game!

If you’re looking for games that run well on older or less powerful computers, Stardew Valley is a great choice. It only requires Windows Vista to run, which shows how easily it can be played on almost any PC. Plus, it’s often available at a discounted price, making it affordable for all types of gamers, from casual players to hardcore enthusiasts.
